Poor Alone in the Dark, I feel so bad for Uwe *snickers* Honestly, it doesn't look too bad, I'm seeing it on Tuesday.

Alone in the Dark had almost no marketing, plus it was probably as big a peice of shit as his last movie. But still, if he comes to this forum, I feel bad for him too, maybe he should let a shmoe direct one of his movies instead.
Based on the Friday estimates, it looks like HIDE AND SEEK would end up close to my $25 mil. prediction. It would be interesting to see the Saturday bump. It's not your typical horror film because of the A-list cast. And I don't believe word-of-mouth is going to be as bad as many predict.
The Oscar nominees seem to be underperforming in their wide releases.

Hide & Seek is very much a typical horror flick, and word of mouth will suck.

Phantom is done :( . Yes , that is kind of surprising that the AA nominated films didn't do better , mainly The Aviator , 11 noms and it barely did anything at all for its box office .
And it looks like cheesy psychological horror still has some appeal , with White Noise and Hide making some decent money , but loud and boisterous cgi horror is not resonating . Uwe Boll will be the one sitting Alone in the Dark waiting for the studios to call him to direct another film , he'l be waiting a long time . The title can also be used to refer to what it was like to see it in theaters , it made so little money , there prob were some peep who actually were sitting Alone in the Dark , theater .

Sorry, Max, but Hide & Seek didn't hit $25 million, and you can be sure that it'll end up under $22 million when final numbers come out tomorrow. Not that Fox isn't happy with the opening, which is good, but it will drop fast and have poor word of mouth. A lot of people hate the last 20 minutes, as they should.
AITD opened to $2.5 million and 14th place, for an average of $1,177 from 2,124 theaters. Ouch. Boxofficemojo claims the budget is $20 million, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was even more than that. Throw in another $10-$15 million for P&A, and you're looking at at least $30 million and maybe closer to $40 million. I would feel bad for Lion's Gate, but they deserve it. What were they thinking here? Is anyone really surprised that the movie and box office are both horrible?
HIDE AND SEEK might have openned very decently, but it WONT have legs. Word-of-mouth has been really bad. I'd see it just for Dakota Fanning, that girl is FREAKY and such a great actress imo. Next weekend Boogeyman is openning and LOTS of pple want to see that.
btw, does anyone know what the budget of H.A.S. is?

I hope your wrong. I want that movie to flop. It looks very lame. Then again, so does The Wedding Date and those are, unfortunately, the only movies opening next week.
Next weekend is going to be very boring.

According to boxofficeguru, the budget for Hide & Seek is $30 million, but that seems highly unlikely seeing that De Niro got, what, $15 million for it? It'd have to be closer to $50 million or so.

Yeah , i agree , Boogeyman looks cheesy enough to attract a nice crowd , and it has the " proper " rating , 32 mil wouldn't be out of the question . I would have to see how many theaters it will be in to get a more accurate assesment , it could be more . That and Curse should do the same business , both are going for a specific demo , and both should snag it .

Maybe, maybe not. Saw it again yesterday afternoon and it was crowded. I enjoyed the movie as much and the buzz on the way out was pretty positive. Internet snobs may have hated the ending but I think general audiences actually liked it. I, for one, thought it was the only way the movie could've ended. If there's a huge drop next weekend, I would attribute it more to the Super Bowl. The movie probably could've made much more if it weren't for the R rating. I saw a lot of kids getting turned away. Also, a majority of adults used the weekend to catch up on their Oscar viewing and are still planning to see it next weekend. Of course this may just be wishful thinking on my part because I liked the movie. It's also quite satisfying to see two De Niro films in the top 5 weekend b.o.. When has that ever happened?

That is definitely wishful thinking. Don't be offended Max, but I think you are blinded by your love for De Niro. It's not just "Internet snobs" that hated the ending. Everyone I talked to about the movie hated the ending. That is just a convenient excuse, and it isn't true. The ending is abysmal. How could you possibly know that a majority of adults are putting off seeing this until next weekend? That is a load of crap. Justify any way you want. Word of mouth will be bad and the Super Bowl will have nothing to do with the drop next weekend. It's a bad movie, plain and simple.
It's a bad movie, plain and simple.
I disagree with you, plain and simple. You may or may not like the ending, but it's the right ending. Charlie couldn't have been anybody else the way it was written. One more thing, the ending makes the performances richer upon hindsight, I think. Like I said, I enjoyed the performances and the movie's style enough to recommend it. My "love for De Niro" may have made it easier for me to like it but I'm pretty clear on this. As for the Oscar distraction, you may be right. There wasn't enough of a distraction there. It's pretty obvious that audiences aren't that excited about this year's nominees, judging from their lackluster b.o.. Can't blame them (THE AVIATOR, especially, was excruciatingly boring, and that despite my love for Scorsese) . However, the Super Bowl should impact most films, except kiddie films or chick flicks. That's why you have a lame made-for-tv film like THE WEDDING DATE opening that weekend. BOOGEYMAN may or may not affect HIDE AND SEEK. It's more or less the same genre but it should attract a different kind of audience. Anyway, I stand by HIDE AND SEEK, regardless of its final b.o. or what anyone else thinks.
Hated GODSEND, btw. No love there.
