Arnold Schwarzenegger
Don't you tell me he can act, because he can't; he's all a wooden figure. - Still: he is a great film Personality. - Consistently the Stoneface (if an abruptly different material metaphor be allowed) he shows a warm heart - and a particular fondness for children. I like him very much, really do.
Andie MacDowell
This former top model really has got a face, but can she act? - No. - Always the same lovely smile and that minimum range of expression. - Still she is a star, and one of those with a nearly undefinable charsima. She has done some memorable performances. She was very eager for the leading part in the interesting Sex, Lies and Videotapes, because she liked the manus, and in his film she provides an intriguing contrast to the nervy James Spader. - On the other hand, she just hated to do Cowgirls - and her performance was just as awful as the movie itself, well, she was in need of the income and never made a secret of it. - So, Andie remains a star to count on, a person of judgment and rare integrity.
A mention Of Honor here for Steven Seagal: juxtaposing this cinematic non-entity to top class character actors like Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey as the ultimate bad-guy-tandem in Under Siege 2 was if anything a genial move - in particular since this film is actually of the smartest action movies we have seen.

I don't like it when singers use their star status to get themselves into movies. The ability to sing does not give you the power to read lines convincingly as a character onscreen.
One actor I'm always ready to defend though is John Wayne. I have heard people (not lately though) say that he couldn't act, but just strut around the screen saying his lines in a funny way.
I've got three movies for you: The Searchers, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, and The Shootist. His performances in these three movies are spectacular. And I didn't even mention the movie he won the Best Actor Oscar for: True Grit - where he delivered another good performance. But to me, he was far better in the three I mentioned. He may not have been a great actor when he started in the business, but he certainly was when he left it.

I'm with you there, bigred. John Wayne is one of the greatest ever. He was unforgettable in The man who shot Liberty Valance.

Chuck Norris - This guy is a Phenomenon, he is so f*ckin bad he turns good, dammit... My Pervo Idol...kind of Ultra Paradox! ;D
Sly Stallone? Did you see First blood? He really makes it there - the guy is f*ck'n excellent, thats what he is, could you believe that...! :O (And Brian Dennehy shouldn't have pissed him off like that, big, BIG mistake!)
Context connected case consideration: Dolph Lundgren....

I thought that said Gene Wilder for a second, and I was going to get angry because he is one of the greatest comedic actors of all time.:)

Arnold Schwarzenegger can act, sort of. He was briliant in the Terminator roles. Nobody could be as effective as him. You see, he can act, in a way.
Sylvester Stallone, for the most part can't act. But he has had his one shining moment as an actor in Rocky, and bright spots like in First Blood and Copland.

Tom Cruise is definately a movie star but he's also a superb actor. He totally disapeared into his roles in Born on the Fourth of July, Magnolia, The Last Samurai and Vanilla Sky.
Your right about Julia Roberts of coarse but to her credit, she did try to do something new with her work in Mary Reilly and Michael Collins. Unfortunately, nobody went to see those movies which is a shame since I thought her performance in Mary Reilly was especially superb.
Vin Diesel is a movie star but he's given effective performances in Boiler Room and Saving Private Ryan.
Keanu Reeves was fantastic in The Gift! Hell, he was actually scary in that movie!
Ben Affleck? C'mon now. He's given good performances in Changing Lanes, Forces of Nature and I got a kick out of his small turn in Shakespeare in Love.
Stallone was great in Rocky, Copland and First Blood.
So I definately disagree with you on Diesel, Reeves, Affleck and Stallone being atrocious actors.

Schwarzie can act, "sort of"... let's settle for that. His greatness is beyond doubt, and the exact wording of our evaluation of him is not very important. - One of my faves is his preformance as Captain Ivan Danko in Walter Hill's -88 production Red Heat, where he makes a very entertaining contrast to the versatile James Belushi (Sgt Art Ridzik.)
