Just curious to see what all ya Schmoes think was the better Autistic/Slow (or for lack of a better term "retarded") movie? I thought Penn did a great job in I Am Sam, but I think Dustin Hoffman did a bit better in Rain Man... Dustin was playing an Autistic character, while I don't remember exactly what the deal was with Penn's character (was it the same thing?) Anyhow... Curious...

Well thus far in this pointless poll, Rain Man's got Penn beat.... I think I'll haveta go with Rain Man myself after thinkin bout it :)

It might not have been so pointless if you had included other characters with mental deficiencies such as Karl Childers or Forrest Gump.

The best autistic performance is Miko Hughes in Mercury Rising. Sure, the thriller plot of the movie is very silly but Hughes really gives a great performance. One of the best kid performances I have ever seen.

As for this poll, I have not seen I am Sam but even if that movie is any good, I don't think it will be as great as Rain Man.

Hey what's better The Godfather or The Last Don? I am going to answer this quite easily, Rain Man is a great movie, I Am Sam is not great, hell it is pretty bad.

Rain Man, easily. Not much of a contest here. We've got a classic(Rain Man) versus a movie that as OK at best(I Am Sam).

Yeah it would've been harder if you compared the preformances of Penn and Hoffman because they were both amazing in their respecitive films but Rain Man beats I Am Sam by a long shot as a story and movie.

Winner:Rain Man

However, I think the actor who had the best performance as a mentally handicapped person was Leonardo DiCaprio in What's Eating Gilbert Grape! Fucking Genius! This movie alone erases away, for me, all the other crap he's done since then. (that is except for Basketball Diaries, he was fucking harsh in that one. But I think he did BD before before WEGG. Whatever.) Leo all the way.
