View Full Version : I Heart Huckabees? What kind of stupid title is that?
Okay, so I saw this film advertised first of all with the 'heart' symbol, so I naturally assumed the film was called "I Love Huckabees", but then I started hearing/reading it referred to as "I Heart Huckabees", which makes absolutely no fucking sense to me whatsoever.
This has kind of bugged me recently, and I've posted this topic to try and get an answer as to why.
I haven't seen the film, so is the title of the film explained within the film? And if so, what is a fucking "Huckabees"....why not name the film "Milk Scat" instead...much better title.
It's one of those films I'd really feel awkard in asking for a ticket. It doesn't sound right at all.

I believe Huckabee's is a store or brand the characters work for.

I agree it's a stupid-sounding title. If I ever end up writing a review of it here, you can bet your life savings that I'm gonna keep calling it I *Love* Huckabees.:p (Haven't seen it yet though so I can't comment otherwise.)

I thought it was an excellent title. It's a breath of fresh air compared to the bog standard action title- you know the one I mean, with the actual film name then some crappy subtitle. Example:
XXX2- State Of The Union
However, I will admit that I felt like a tit when asking for a ticket ("One for I, erm... Heart Huckabees please").

I'm with you 100%. I was thinking the same thing when I first saw the title, then heard people saying "I Heart Huckabees."
Oy vey, how dumb.

I avoided it partially based on the stupid title. The previews looked stupid to me too.

This is true. Wasn't a bad movie, either. Not incredible, but still one of the better movies of this year in my opinion. As for using "Heart" instead of "Love"... people at my high school say this all the time, no joke.
Considering the heart symbol is universally recognised as meaning 'love', it just makes no sense.
As with the famous "I love NY", it's not "I heart NY". Makes no sense.

This movie was H O R R E N D O U S. Another of my favorite directors dellivered a hot steaming pile of cinematic shit this year, thanks David O Russell who I've waited since 1998 and Three Kings. Great.
You know it was a bad year when this fucking inarticulate narrative wasteland is hailed as a "critical favorite." I walked out and yelled "This movie sucks."
Why is so good? Because it's "weeeiiiird, maaannn". Yeah, because no one gets it, it's "genius". That means it was so high conceptual art that we could never understand it.
David Lynch can do that, this movie can't. It was terrible, I want my fuckin $10 back, Sherman Oaks Pacific Galleria.

What the other guy said. I don't mind the fact that they used a heart in the title, at least in the ads. Hey, they need to get people's interest. It's just irritating how literally it's being taken in this case.

I haven't seen the film yet, but I actually like the title. It's different, and that's cool by me. As for the film itself, it looks like a breath of fresh air. I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

Yeah, I didn't think it was so unheard of.
I mean, when you're playing cards, you say you have a flush -- all hearts, not all "loves" -- that Juice Newton song isn't "Queen of Love"
The "heart" is something that's been adopted over the years when seeing the "I *heart* NY" shirts, I've heard soooooo many people refer to the heart as a heart over the years -- and it never made me say "Whoa! This is crazy!"
I too originally thought it may have been "I *love* Huckabees"" but upon hearing it was *heart* - didn't think too much of it. Now thinking of it, I would assume that maybe no one in the movie loves the Huckabees and maybe it is refered to -- either way, it doesn't bother me. The movie PI was a symbol, and called "Pi" -- Someone could have just as easily said that it shouldn't be refered to as Pi, but as "3.14 ad infinitum". Okay, weak comparison....
I don't know, but like I said, I didn't realize the symbol for "heart" being refered to as "heart" could be so so out-of-line.

The title itself reeks of pretentousness. That it's an inside joke that you will only understand once you see the film. I have asked a few people what it's about and haven't gotten a clear answer yet. Looks like another arsty film that the critics will gobble up and most folks won't watch.

I didn't like it because it was weird or because after seeing it I'm still not sure what existentialism is, I liked it because it was funny.
The only movies I walked out of and yelled "that movie sucked" at this year were the Grudge and Without a Paddle, both of which put together would not be one zillionth as good as I Heart Huckabees.

UPDATE:
This was wayyy too coincidental, but I needed to share it....
Today, we were watching about those Delta flights that were hijacked. Well, in one of the pictures it showed where people had written messages in blood.
One of the messages said, "I *heart* my kids!"
I said, "Oh my god!" and then asked my wife if she read that.
She says, "I couldn't make it out -- I HEART something"
And I jokingly said "I HEART Huckabees?" (Having only been in this thread a short while before :D)
Really, like I said, before -- hearing someone pronounce the symbol for heart as just that has never struck me as weird.
Maybe it's an American, or Southern, or some other cultural thing. I don't really know other than what I've said.
And yes, in case you didn't catch it -- my wife and I often joke at inappropriate times. Ah.... true love :p

Yeah I know a lot of people who say "I heart you" instead of "I love you" and stuff like that. I think it's a cool title, too bad I the movie wasn't as good as I was hoping for.

Was this really a necissary topic? About a title?
I call it I Heart Huckabees. I guess that makes me a first class dumbass, right?

Aw lighten up. You know how people are: if there is something that bugs one person, it's totally up for debate.
As is usual on Joblo.com an insignificant topic turns into a bashing topic.

The symbol is a heart hence the "heart" huckabess but i did think it was love, as the heart symbol is always refered to as love, unles its a rea looking heart (exceptions for a few black comedies tho :P). And so using proper english language grammer it should be i love huckabees but, alas it aint...lols.
Honestly, i doubt any of our lives are worth two shits about this.

The title is strange and original, and so is the movie. I personally loved the flick, but I can see this being a love it or hate it type of movie. If the title is too out there for you, maybe the flick would be too.

I don't see what the big deal is about the title? And by the way the movie is hilarious and is probably Marky Mark's 2nd best role ever, right behind Dirk Diggler.
