Finding Nemo animator dies at 35

Movie animator Dan Lee, who designed Nemo the fish for hit film Finding Nemo, has died aged 35.

He died on 15 January after a 17-month battle with lung cancer, according to Finding Nemo director Andrew Stanton.

"Dan was very good at finding the appeal in the designs of his characters," Mr Stanton told the Los Angeles Times.

Mr Lee also worked on Monsters, Inc, A Bug's Life and Toy Story 2 for the Pixar studio.

His other character creations included Rosie, Princess Atta, Dot, Hopper and Tuck & Roll in A Bug's Life, Waternoose in Monsters, Inc and Marlin, Bloat and the barracuda in Finding Nemo, the paper said.

Mr Lee, born in Montreal, Canada, previously worked for Kennedy Cartoons in Toronto and Colossal Pictures in San Francisco. He is survived by his mother, father and three sisters.

Oh, man, this is sad news. I'm from Oakland and am friends with an animator at Pixar. Great group of people over there, this is truly a loss. My heart goes out to them.

Nemo was, indeed, another home run for Pixar, and nobody should die at 35, nobody. RIP.
