***Spoilers for the movies, Hide and Seek, A Beautiful Mind, Secret Window, Primal Fear, Identity***

I wish Hollywood would choose to insult my intelligence as a movie goer a bit more. I really do. The main character has multiple personalities! I love it. Every fucking movie the damn killer/main character has a fucking multiple personality! Those little shits in Hollywood think that I don't notice this? It's in every god damn movie. A Beautiful Mind, Secret Window, Primal Fear, Identity, come on! Why does every movie have to end this way? Can't someone be fucking creative for once!!! Do something that hasn’t been done 100 times before! I am positive that this has been done many other times that I just haven't remembered. Does anyone else feel insulted by Hollywood here?

I agree on all except A BEAUTIFUL MIND, which is head and shoulders above every other one of the others. Otherwise, great rant. It tells it like it is.

When I saw Hide and Seek, I didn't read any spoilers or anything, so I was semi-excited to find out who/what "Charlie" was. After it was revealed, someone in the audience said really loudly, "What the fuck?!?" and about half the theater started laughing. Those kind of twist endings are stupid, unoriginal, and really do cheat an audience out of a good movie. So yeah, it pisses me off too.

I totally agree on this rant. It is all too often used in the horror genre as an easy way out. And it gets very old. Now, if it were don't in such a way where it didn't come right out and tell/show this to the audeince but only hinted that may be one of the many possibilties then I wouldn't mind so much. But very few movies have tried it. ( SPOILERS---- Memento and Donnie Dark come to mind, not that they necessarily have something to do with multiple personalities, they just left the endings of the movie open so the audience could believe what they want based on what they remember seeing, which gets the audience engaged and that's what I like).

I agree as well. This type of ending is getting out of hand, and does a lot to ruin every film it's used in.

*SPOILIES*

Haute Tension. Probaby the best horror movie to come out in the past 5 years or so, ruined by this crappy cliched ending.

As for Identity, I thought it worked well for that movie because it was a little bit of a different idea.

I actually liked Identity, but then when every other scary movie trys to do the same suprise, it just sucks. With the exception of a Beatfiul Mind since it was a different kind of movie. Thanks for the heads up though; as soon as I read what movies you had spoilers for, I immediatly figured out the ending to Hide and Seek without seeing it. Won't waste my time with it now.

SPOILERS FOR PRIMAL FEAR

First of all, Primal Fear is like 10 years old. So it's hardly copying. Second of all, the main character doesn't have split personalities. He's just pretending. Well, at least that's how I remember it.

END.

I dont know, multiple personalities work really really well on Twin Peaks ( both the series and the feature ) and Lost Highway.

It al depends on the threatment it gets if you ask me.

Sorry for spoiling the movie in the spoiler warning. I'm not sure how else to have listed it though.

On another note, your right whoever said this, Primal Fear didn't have multiple personalities but pretended to. That was the beauty of it.

Lord Nikon, you made another rant EXACTLY like this

A Beautiful Mind

WHOA!

A beautiful mind is different.

John Nash was a schizophrenic, which is different from MPD (which doesn't exist anymore.)
Nash suffered from hallucinations and delusions.

I was too pissed off to put all my anger into only 1 thread. And they are different incase you didnt notice. This rant is about Hide and Seek sucking the big one. The other one has to do more with Hollywood disrespecting us by churning out this movie that sucks the big one. And also the movie goers who actually paid money to say to Hollywood "You know what, I'll pay for you to make the same crappy movie over and over. So you just keep making you're shitty movies, and I'll make you rich. And by doing so you will never come up with anything creative ever, because coming out with shitty movies is seemingly working" God I am pissed off.

i agree... mainly only with HIDE AND SEEK (I Guess Spoilers are a comin)

I was pissed when we found out the ending to this flick... it was supposed to be an ORIGINAL flick.. and here we go for the same shit ive seen a million times!

As for SECRET WINDOW... i loved this flick.. even if the ending was the MPD... and its not like that was written in 2003 and doe in 2003.. it was based on a short by Stephen King that was written in late 80's i think!

You didt mention FIGHT CLUB in your MPD rant... of course, FC is one of my fav flicks, and it was the first flick i ever saw with that ending, so i def enjoyed it!

Primal Fear still ranks as one of my favorite endings to any movie... when Norton starts clapping, and Gere stops and walks back... one of the greatest scenes ever put on film!

I enjoyed Identity, cuz it was a twist on the MPD thing... mainly cuz it wasnt MPD it was a man, who was sick in the head, and the whole movie was in his head, thats how the things were possible in the flick. Very enjoyable movie.

I was insulting Hide and Seek alot more then those other movies. it is Hide and Seek that stole from all those movies. Infact I enjoyed Primal Fear, Fight Club, A Beatiful Mind alot. Identity I thought was solid, but nothing great. But I fault Hide and Seek for not really doing much other than looking at other movies and say, hmm how much can we steal from them, so we dont have to come up with a plot or twist ending for ourselves.

They're not very different. You're just saying Hollywood treats the viewers like idiots, except in this one you're mentioning different movies.

"The only idea...more overused than serial killer, is multiple personality. On top of that, you explore the notion that cop and criminal is really the same thing. See every other cop movie ever made for examples of this."

"The other thing is, there's no way to write this, have you considered that? How can you have someone help prisoner in a basement, and, and working in a police station at the same time?"

"Trick photography."

I cant comment on everyfilm iwth this ending, and i havnt seen a beutifull mind but from what i hear from it, and other films, nothing beats Fight Club. I mean to have this ending and actually have a full meaning behind it and not be in there just for shits and giggles is something outstanding. I'm not sure if this or Secret Window was written frist, but i though secret window's film was too weak compared to Fight CLub.

Well that major twist really ruined Identity for me. Untill that point I was really engaged and into it and once that twist happend I was unable to enjoy the rest of the film. The multiple personality thing isn't that bad if done correctly.

first of all A Beatiful Mind was a great movie, a marval to the industry. 10/10.

Primal fear was what, 10-12 years ago, a great performance by norton - 9/10

Now, while watching Secret window are you telling me you didn't know it was depp from the first 10 minutes. I don't think they were trying to insult your intelligence.

Next, I can agree identity would have been 100x better if it didn't have the half assed cop out ending.. Shit the mask from scream would have been better.
