What I mean by this some basic cable channels like AMC/American Movie Classics , Bravo & Sci Fi Channel has gone outiside of the box on the content of what they build themselves as who they are.
Just taking a look at their lineup..... I looked up AMC's website and here are the movies scheduled.....
Footloose
An Officer & A Gentleman
K-19 Widowmaker
Patton
Sixteen Candles
The Color Of Money
Wes Craven's New Nightmare
Lake Placid
Big Trouble in Little China
Smokey & The Bandit
From this list at least 3 I do NOT consider classic
Can anyone guess? :D
Now the Sci-Fi Channel is goin be showing Jason X......
So being that the movie takes place in space instantly qualifies for their channel? And I thought their showing of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer was awkward for the channel when they played it one time...
Should hollywood be blamed for the lackluster of films they are doin nowdays or are these cable channels just not picking out the right films to show on their stations?

I'm beginning to think that with other cable channels like HBO, Showtime, and FX offering "hipper" programs to viewers, AMC and Sci-Fi are trying to compete by showing more mainstream, modern movies that appeal to a wider audience. Personally, I prefered AMC and Sci-Fi when it showed older movies. Sci-Fi used to be cool when they first came on, airing the old B&W movies and doing theme weeks and specials. Now they're just rerunning crap, whether it came from Hollywood or their own movies.

Now if it was The Hunt For Red October then this movie similar to K-19 would have made MORE sense for AMC.....
Now I am noticing ABC Family is showing a lot of PG-13 ish movies... As ABC itself stopped showing movies entirely?

I personally love what Sci-Fi is doing now. How could you not? This weekend they showed Return of the Living Dead III, Day of the Dead, Beetlejuice, Resident Evil and a few other classic horror movies from the 80's and 90's. I love scare tactics and they have their line-up down pretty well now. Horror and Sci-Fi movies all weekend. Then during the week they show a different sci-fi series all morning until about 4pm like Quantam Leap all Monday, and Sliders all Tuesday. Then they play original programming from 4-11 or so. Then they play stuff like The Outer Limits and the Twighlight Zone late night. How can you beat that??? They even play Buck Rogers!!! Buck Fucking Rogers!! And for the people that have yet to figure it out.....the Sci-Fi Channel does play Sci-Fi and Horror movies. Big fucking deal, chances are if you like Sci-Fi you like horror so what is there to complain about?? If you really want all Sci-Fi all the time then go watch you Star Trek DVDs and stop complaining!! Of course you'd also never admit to having Star Trek DVDs so what's the point.

The worst movie to ever appear on AMC was Pinata: Survival Island. It's a crappy b-horror movie and nowhere near a classic.
