Mine...Best picture. Im not saying that because it is the biggest catagorie, but IT IS COMPETITIVE.

Ray and finding never land....they don't have that much of a chance. But..

MY #1 spot for movie of the year (2004), is a tie between Million Dollar baby, and the aviator. I cannot pick between them.
But sadly, sideways is getting so much love ( Best cast at the SAG, but how much of the actors from sideways won awards?! BULLSHIT!), and Im concerned it could win....

Anyone else?

I haven't seen Million Dollar Baby yet or Finding Neverland but will probably see them next weekend.

I'm rooting for The Aviator. AMAZING movie!

But I also love Sideways and would have no problem whatsoever with it wining.

Actually, several of the categories are really competitive this year. This hasn't happened in a while. It's definitely the most competitive Oscar year since 1998. The only real locks seem to be Jamie Foxx for Best Actor and The Incredibles for Best Animated Feature.

Most competitive is probably Best Supporting Actor. Alan Alda and Jamie Foxx are pretty much out, but Thomas Haden Church, Morgan Freeman, and Clive Owen are all neck-and-neck (and neck). I really have no clue who will win.

Best Picture and Director are also really competitive as well. Picture is a 3-way race between The Aviator, Sideways, and Million Dollar Baby. Director won't go to Alexander Payne, even if Sideways wins Best Picture. It's just between Scorsese and Eastwood. My prediction is that Best Picture and Director will go to two different movies. Not just because it's so close, but because they've actually got a bit of a trend going. Since 1998, every even-numbered year has had a split between Picture and Director. I think it will continue for 2004.

I think it's best actor. Substitue Johnny Depp for Paul Giamatti and it would be a crazy list. Jaime Foxx is definitely the front runner.

Alrato!

Usually the most competitive is the Best Actor race, but certainly not this year. This year is a great year because out of the 6 major categories, Picture, Director, Actor, Actress and the 2 supporting roles, all except, like I said before, Best Actor is still very competitive. This year I would probably say Best Picture and Supporting Actress are the most competitive.

Good thread:

I think the most competitive is Director, mostly because of what's at stake. It's between Scorcese, who has never won one but probably should have; and Eastwood, who already has one and has won the Golden Globe and DGA award in the category. Who will win? Who will win?

The lock: Jamie Foxx for Best Actor.
