That's not the point. Ice Cube built his reputation on not giving a fuck about anything. Now he makes crappy kids movies. Okay, sure tons of money is being thrown his way, but he already has tons of money! He could take his time, find worthwhile projects instead of doing the first thing that comes his way!

He did a complete U-Turn on his career and I don't have much respect for the guy anymore, but who cares when he makes a bunch of money right?

Ice Man should be more selective on what projects he takes/creates......... But it seems that Comedy Roles is his safety net lately :(

Cube moved outta the hood years ago. The guy has a family now, he probably did this for his children. Is Cube a sell out? yeah. Does Cube give a fuck? no.

I don't think it's so much of being a sell-out...

I think he just grew up and moved out of his mother's basement.

If you compare it to our level, do we all still have the same feelings, political ideology, and listen faithfully to the same music as we did 10 years ago?

I don't. I feel that I matured my ass away from MTV's Summer Beach House... but I don't consider myself a sell-out.

He's just mellowed out in his old age. I'm sure he's not wanting to be cast as a 36 year old gang banger.

" Ice Cube built his reputation on not giving a fuck about anything. "

EXACTLY!!!!! He doesn't CARE that we don't like him doing kids movie. Would you rather he do HOOD remakes again and again? He does what he wants, has fun with the movies he makes...how has he sold out? By that definition, than anyone who makes a "great" movie then makes a less serious one is a sell out. If that's true, then name one actor that hasn't sold out?

People bitch when an actor plays the same roles all the time, and people bitch when actors try to change it up some.

Ice Cube is not a 'gangsta', he's an actor. He's making smart buissness decisions. He isn't some young punk moron who thinks that drugs, guns, and girls make the world go around. He's an older man with a family who has to make decision's based on that. He has earned the right to pick which role's he wants.

People grow up.

You said it perfectly. It would pathetic to see a fortysomething former rapper still try to be gangsta.

Somehow, I just don't think viking helmets are gangsta. Yeah, I agree with most in the thread that it would be pretty sad to see a 40-something delinquent on screen.

sad indeed -- lol.

True, it would be sad to see fortysomething rappers in the hood rapping about the same shit they rapped about 15 years ago...what I was getting at is that I thought cube showed so much promise with the likes of Three Kings. I was hoping he'd develop into an actor whose films I looked forward to, but after Ghosts of Mars, Barbershops and Are We There Yet? not to mention the upcoming XXX sequel I have lost all hope.

If we should be clowning on anyone it should be Will Smith. That douche bag is coming out with yet another rap album.
I saw his video on BET where is decked out in Roc-A-Wear dancing with girls twice as young as him. Fucking pathetic.

"Son, I didn't sell out, I bought in."

I dont know i just think its times where you grow out of things like acting all thuggish and if Cube wants to do non serious kids films then let him.

I agree with the sentiments that he grew up.

Ice Cube is alright by me.

I'd rather see him making some decent, but forgettable movies than see him rap about the hood, even though he's in the upper class LA area with all the money he needs

While stationed at Edwards AFB in So Cal Ice Cube was amoung the sparse amounts of "celebs" who came to the base for a exhibition basketball game. While working security we were allowed to have a picture taken with Ice Cube after asking him a question. I asked;

"What the fuck were you thinking when you made 'Ghosts of Mars' man?"

It was hard for him to act "gangsta" at that moment while I was in posession of three weapons. I don't think he likes me all too much though, not one bit. But honestly, what the hell was Ghosts of Mars all about? Space Zombies were a great idea for Ed Wood and the like but to try to make it into a serious movie...well you witnesses the results.

I agree, not to mention he has done all sorts of movies lately. A kids movie, an Action movie. He is doing all different types.

Sell Out, possibly.

But by opening himself up to alot of different genre's, I am sure that he thinks "Man, I am sell out" when he is cashing the numerous checks from all his movies.

Almost everyone atleast once in their career ends up trying a kids movie.

The Postmaster General

How do you feel about Clint Eastwood? Didn't he sell out by the same standards you've set for Ice Cube?

Dork Knight
02-24-2005, 07:46 PM
I"m pretty sure that the vast majority of people in "the business" sell out and only a VERY small percentage stay free. I mean to me a prime example of someone that didn't sell out was Orson Welles for "Citizen Kane".

But on the subject of Ice Cube, someone who tries to project the gangsta image and then does "Are we there yet?" is the worst kind of sell out...or is it just the garlic sauce from my Papa Johns making me talk crazy?

The Postmaster General

I don't know, Dork Knight. It isn't like he pulled a Henry Hill and went State's Witness, or something.

All he's done is stop being gangster and started raising a family, and making mainstream films.

Maybe he just no longer appreciates Le Thug Life.

Hobbs2100
02-27-2005, 12:41 PM
Just wait though. maybe his new movie....XXX: State of the Union will bring back that gangsta image.

LOL

Ok we've seen Ice Cube portray just about everything on screen except a gay dude. I don't know how I'll take it if he does do a gay role. I mean there was that movie that Wing Rhames did where he was gay and taking care of some little girl (it was JUST on BET the other night and I caught the last few minutes of it) but I've seen it before and I liked it. Now he's playing Kojack in the new Kojack series. Also a good thing. Could branching out to ALL roles make the Cube a more respected actor?

Hobbs2100
02-28-2005, 09:43 AM
You betcha,

The last thing any actor wants is to be type cast.
...Just look at the funny look Adam Sandler got went he started to do drama and non funny roles.

NOw what kind of story could Ice Cube go gay for...Gay Boyz N' Tha Hood? Menace II Sodomy? Higher Yerming? Oh oh oooooh! I know! He could slim down and play Little Richard in a biographical movie!

"And in 1973 I sucked my first dick..."

THat's a line I'd definately pay evening ticket prices at the theatre to hear him say.

For those who think he sold out need to dig out Ice-T's O.G. CD and listen to Escape from the Killing Fields

I am still pissed at Cube and Co for the half-a55ed NWA comeback.
