View Full Version : Awesomely Bad Horror Flicks

Some of the most fun horror flicks are those ones that are just so over the top. Rediculous plot, cheesy acting, gratuitous cheap gore, (and other cheap FX). Despite all their flaws these movies are still so over the top that you can't help but enjoy them. A few of the ones I've seen and loved:

Blood Diner: This movie has it all, lots of gore, lots of nudity, such a rediculous plot, and to top it all off: a wrestling match!

Dead-Alive: This movie was just insane. It went from one thing to another until it went WAY over the top. (giant mutant mommy, what the hell?!)

Jack Frost: killer mutant snowman? Such a rediculous plot, and less than stellar acting, but it was fun to just sit back and laugh at it.

Jack Frost II: The first movie didn't really go over the top, but this one sure did. Attack of the killer snowballs? wtf? I just had to laugh at how rediculous this movie series was getting. Bad, but still alot of fun.

Indeed, some of my favorite films are nothing but explosions of oozing cheese!

Evil Dead 2, Dead Alive, Meet the Feebles, Army of Darkness, Re-Animator Trilogy, Class of Nukem' High, Killer Klowns From Outer Space, Night of the Creeps, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, TerrorVision, Demon Knight and a Partridge and a Pear tree (or a "TV bigger than me" if you happen to be a redneck) are all personal favorites of mine.

but yeah, gotta love those cheesy movies. Some of them are awesomely bad... but close enough.

Demons. It's filled with plot holes and barely explains anything and the acting/dialgue isn't that good but man do I love it.

All equally bad movies and I love 'em.

Girls' Nite Out and Rawhead Rex. With Rawhead Rex, the guy that played the priest, you'd think he was doing Shakespeare. Awesomely bad and enjoyable.

I saw a double feature of shitty horror movies this past weekend. The first being Cut and Run starring Willy Ammes from "Charles in Charge" (Buddy) and the bald, freaky looking guy from The Hills Have Eyes. And just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, the 2nd movie, titled Spellcaster, actually was worse. It starred Adam Ant (Yeah, the fucking singer) as the devil. A lot of unintended laughs in these two flicks, and definitely not recommended.

I'm missing Bad Taste here. Classic over the top comedy with horror elements. Derek's hole brain-thing still cracks me up.

I agree with Gluttony's choices. I love those flicks.
I thought I was the only one that ever saw TerrorVision. "Ruuuude!"

BTW Gluttony, it's not "TV bigger than me", it's "Parts for a Mustang GT" or in some cases "A wedding ring for my cousin, Peggy Lee"

I agree. Any movie starring Willie Aames automatically fits into the awesomely bad category. Zapped!, Cut and Run, and Paradise all reek of cheddar and are standouts.

As for horror titles the list is pretty deep. I like Night of the Ghouls, The Werewolf vs the Vampire Women, The Killer Shrews, and Satan’s Cheerleaders to name a few.

'Spookies' was one of those titles that Id see on the video shelf, but I didnt bother to rent it. I have read mainly 'negative' reviews for this flick, so I guess it worked out for the best.

On the other hand...

'Burial Ground'....hands down one of the worst pieces of shit...ever! This belongs on the top ten list of " One of the Worst Zombie Films" of all time! Talk about fucking bad, the zombie make-up...If you can call it...was a joke!

I swear the so-called zombies look like douche bags running around in cheap halloween masks that some fuckwad tossed some dirt on for effect...

Ed Wood couldnt have done any worse!

Burial Ground gets the 'Big Yawn' award..zzzzzzzz!!!

Nope even the unrated dead alive has some gore missing. Theres a spanish dvd of braindead that just has a few extra scenes of dialog. the 'braindead' versions have a few extra scenes of gore over the dead alive versions.

AND THE WINNER IS...

Psycho Beach Party

Come on, bubbly surfer chick, played by Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under) who has MPD or something. Anyway, her evil side likes to chop up her friends, and her bubbly side doesn't have a clue. It's set in the 60's and looks like a mix of Beach Blanket Bingo and Friday the 13th. Check it out. It's awesomely bad and great for a few laughs.

My faves in the so bad but oh so awesome category :

Hell of the living Dead aka Night of the Zombies

This is the best bad italian horror film ever made and prob the most entertaining . This should be shown at film school to illustrate jus how a bad film can be made " intriguing " . Everything about this film is amateurish but damned if i dont keep on watching it and loving it . Surprisingly , there is a fair amount of great gore and zombie action in this film , if a more competent director had the reigns on this , this could have been considered one of the best in the genre . Its an undeniable cult classic that never ceases to entertain with its cheese drenched production values . Long live Bruno Mattei aka Vincent Dawn . Did i ention a woman goes topless to blend in with the natives ? Dont ask , just be happy she does , wowzer those are some nice ones , and all natural thank you .

Zombie 3 aka zombie flesheaters 2

This is right behind HOTLD as far as great italian cheese . It's highly entertaining , and somewhat maddening , because another great zombie movie is hidden behind all the missteps , but it doesnt matter its lack of excellence is it's calling card , a failed experiment by Fulci when he was getting bored with thsi particular genre has birthed another golden age cheese classic thats as unforgettably bad as the aforementioned film . Walking and running zombies , kung fu zombies , zombies who can wield a mean sword , zombies who hide out in haystacks , talking zombies , bird zombies , bad makeup fx ( with some exceptions ) , bad dialogue , bad dubbing , bad lighting , terrible cinematography , its all here in one great big zombie epic . Im glad that Bruno Mat and C fraggasso took over midway through production , it only enhanced the so bad its awesome atmosphere . Can't get enough of this and once again this could of been something really special , in a polished kind of way , but its all the better because it isnt . Oh did i mention the overuse of that miysterious green fog that appears anytime a zombie is lurking around , and the baby zombie , and the flying head zombie , you just have to see this , its classic status is frimly implanted .

Zombie 4 : after death

After the " success " of Zom 3 in the european market , some coke snorting , cappucino sipping , wife swapping studio execs had some extra money laying around and were betting that the zombie genre wasnt quite dead yet , so they gave Claudio Fragasso , the assistant director of Zom 3 a decent sized budget to make his own film , and boy did he just about top the incompetence he exhibited as AD of Zom 3 . And the result , more awesome zombie cheese . At least this one is more focused with regards to narrative , but just as horrible , in the most entertaining of ways . Back is the green fog , back are the bad effects , back is the terrible dubbing , back is the atrocious acting , its all here again , and its some terrific stuff indeed . Once again there are some cool gore effects , and some tense scenes of zombies attacking a house , in addtion to some crazed voodo priest . See this film , its one of the best of its cheese infested kind , like the first two i mentioned , its accidental genius at work , the best kind in my opinion .

* In a post apocalyptic world full of zombies, one Mexican-American male named Matool reigns supreme with his UFC fighting style, 12 inch reusable nails, hammer, and muay thai kickboxing gloves. *

*Matool looks over from a distance and sees a broken down car. The driver, a male, is pulled out of a window and begins to be eaten alive. The passenger, a female sits inside screaming.*

MATOOL: Fuck yeah.

Add Michael (The Sentinel) Winner’s trash classic Scream For Help to the pile. Witness dramatic music when the girl finds a pocketknife or plans to get information by making blueberry pancakes. Don’t miss the extreme chase when the stepfather tries to elude his stepdaughter driving in his car while she rides a bicycle. Try to contain yourself for the twists and turns of this gem.
