View Full Version : The Frat Pack sucks

There seems to be a group of five of them who always seem to appear in each others' movies: Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn. Various combinations of these guys can be found in Old School, Zoolander, Meet The Parents, Dodgeball, Anchorman, Starsky & Hutch, and however many others that I haven't seen or haven't been released yet.
They suck.

Care to give a reason?
"They suck" doesnt really cut it.
Personally, I love every single one of them. All 5 are downright hilarious. Especially Stiller and Ferrell.

Vince Vaughn needs to hit the threadmill.

Not only does they suck not cut it, it also goes against what this forum is all about. We're supposed to have intelligent conversations and while it is someones right to think a group of actors suck, that opinion must be backed up with reaons of some sort.

Will Ferrell sucks? Give him my address please. I have some DD's with his name on them.
Okay, kidding aside, no, none of these guys suck. They're all great, so I guess that means I disagree with this rant.

I have to disagree too. While not a big fan of Stiller; I definitely like the other guys...
As for them showing up in movies together: what about Adam Sandler? He does the same thing...

I concur with the poster. I don't like one of those movies, I thought Old School was kind of funny but not nearly as funny as people made it sound and I really didn't see what the big deal was.
Individually, I love all those guys. But when they're together, those movies are boring and get less and less funny each outing. Ben Stiller has so many movies that probably sound hilarious on paper, but when they're put onscreen they're a miserable bore.
If I had to absolutely pick one watchable film with the "frat pack", I guess it'd have to be Old School. But like Adam Sandler, the joke was funny the first time (Happy Gilmore) and just got weaker and more played out and horrid as they went. Now I'd like to kill Adam Sandler. Thats how these guys are gettting.

Let me explain myself. I just heard the term "Frat Pact" to describe these guys. They have been doing movies together for around 10 years now. I like Ferrel but am sick to death of all the other members (Jack Black is apparently "the 6th Packer" so he doesn't count).
-Vince Vaughn needs to sober up. He's starting to look like John B before he ODed
-Owen get your nose fixed. You look like Dennis Hopper's bastard son.
-Luke get some acting lessons
-Stiller: YOU JUST PLAIN SUCK

Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn
Agreed on Ben Stiller. He hasn't been funny since he had his own show in the early 90s. Intermittently amusing in small roles, such as Your Friends and Neighbors and The Royal Tenenbaums. Somehow manages to play the same neurotic asswipe in every movie, even in his short stint on CYE.
Agreed on Will Ferrell. Elf sucked. Anchorman perpetually blew. He was fine on SNL, but much like Mike Myers and Adam Sandler, doesn't strike me as funny outside that show.
Disagree on Owen and Luke. I love them both and their dry quirky sense of humors. Vince Vaughn needs to get back to Swingers-type roles. Having short cameos in the umpteenth Stiller project is doing him no good.

I don't think that they are that funny, and don't nearly live up to their potential.
A lot of times it's just like they get into a costume and then try to act silly expecting everything they do to be funny. "Look at me... I'm in this silly costume talking and then I run into a brick wall not paying attention. NOW LAUGH!"
It almost reminds me of my junior high days when my friends would get drunk on Jack Daniels and then start putting on other peoples' clothes and start walking around doing impersonations.
That's not talent to me. These guys have talent, and I think they're blowing it on these shitty movies. They have reached a bar so high that it seems like they don't even try anymore.
I could seriously see Mike Myers releasing "So I married an axe murderer" here in 2005 and it grossing over 75 million and garnishing loyal fans.

I think they rule. They're all hilarious. Do they teach me much? No. But if I go see one of these guys' movies, I'm almost sure I'll have a great ninety minutes, laugh my ass off, and walk out with a bag of quotable lines to use at will myself. What more can you ask from comedy actors?

For me, it's a few laughs. I got a shitload more laughs in Harold and Kumar go to white castle than in any of the 'Frat Pack's movies from the last two years.

To me, Stiller and the Wilson brothers have never been funny. Ferrel just annoys me now but I've always like Vaughn. These guys make way too many movies. If they weren't so over-exposed I might be able to tolerate them.
I also don't like the Brat pack. So take my opinion for what it's worth,

I think I like Owen Wilson the best outta the bunch, but I think for the most part I agree with the original topic... There's nothing overly special, or funny about these guys... What makes the masses in general laugh, is MUCH different usually than what makes me laugh I suppose....
I've seen a whole lot worse than these guys. I think that the problem here, though, is that their choices for films are unoriginal and hammed up. If these guys teamed up with more creative minds like the Farrelly brothers (for example), I think we would see the tremendous talent we saw with Stiller in THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY.

I don't know about the Farrelly brothers. If they took Will Ferrell for instance, they'd probably have him play a character with a disability or handicap for two hours, and we're all supposed to laugh at its hilarity.

Agreed. The Farrely brothers seem to be scraping the bottom of the barrel recently.

It's probably the only work he can get.

So true-- except when he plays a retarded idiot such as in Zoolander and Dodgeball. the only times I ever thought this guy was funny was when he played an old folks home taskmaster in Happy Gilmore and when he got his weiner stuck in his zipper in There's Something About Mary.
I laughed my ass off at THE CABLE GUY. Stiller has the talent. He just doesn't always use it.

True-- I forgot he directed that. I did laugh at that film.
Loved it when Chip invoked the Star Trek "danger music" at Medieval Times.

Stiller has pretty much lost it, and anyone who saw Along came Polly or Duplex, should agree. Granted, he has some decent roles, but they've mostly been supporting, like in Happy Gilmore, Dodgeball, Cable Guy, Anchorman....I think he's better as a cameo/supporting character.
Ferrell is downright hilarious, I don't care what anyone says otherwise, the more I watch Anchorman, the more I agree with this, his delivery, body language and pretty much everything he does is comical. If anyone disagrees then they haven't seen the "More Cowbell Skit" from SNL
The Wilson brothers have their moment, moreso Owen, His performance in Royal Tenenbaums was nutty, and definately his funniest. Luke had his moments in Old School, but he's definately the least funny of the 5
Vince Vaughn has his own style, its hard to explain, but its definately unique, he stole the show in Made and Swingers, and he needs to do more of those roles, although he was funny in Old School.
I think eventually these guys will put out stinker films (Wedding Crashers looks lame) But I hope they can prove us wrong.
