I don't want to get into the details of what movies in the first post because I don't want this to be an "i hate that movie" thread.

Ever been in a store and hear people reading the back of the movie?

"Hmmm... must not be low budget, Lion's gate made it."

You hear this comment, and you see the movie they're talking about. And you know... you know the truth and you want to shout it to them.

Lion's gate didn't fucking make it. That other production company didn't make Blimpy's fucking night out either. They were independent movies that were bought by these companies after they screened well at some film festival!

And it's as if the movie hadn't had that Lion's gate seal on the back of it, you wouldn't have fuckin rented it.

Does anyone else hear this shit a lot in the video stores? It even happens with friends. They are iffy about anything that they feel is independent unless it has this special little paramount or lion's gate logo on the back of it that all of a sudden gives them the sense of security because they think Jack fucking Lion Gate kicked down his office doors and set up the script, wall papered the sets, and fucked the actors on screen.

Ahhhh maybe I'm just sick of saying "Lion's gate didn't make it, they bought it after it was made." "No, paramount didn't make it, they bought it after the film was made."

Really, the only thing I have to add to this rant is that most people really don't know how movies are made or the process of putting them on the video shelves in the first place. I've made this mistake, not about studios, but about directors and their part in some films. It's easy to misunderstand on any level if you aren't in the profession. Good rant, though. You make a valid point.

I kinda have the opposite reaction. If I see the Lion's Gate seal I'll end up renting it just because Lion's Gate released it. I love a lot of the film they've distributed. Same goes for Anchor Bay.

When I'm in video stores it's usually really early in the morning or very late at night and there aren't many other customers so I don't hear opinions.

Kinda reminds me of how the video store in town (not the one I work at, that's elsewhere) used to put every single animated movie in the Disney section. The cover said DreamWorks or Fox or Columbia/Tri-Star, but nope, since it was a cartoon, it had to be Disney.

I'm sorta like what you hate, but like someone said, if I see Lion's Gate I know most movies put out by Lion's Gate I have liked, and thats why I'll buy it. Same goes for Anchor Bay. But I must say that's not the first thing I look at. I would have bought Ju-on even if the label said "Low Budget Films". I mostly look at the cover/Name, and than look at the discription, and if I like it, and buy it than I'll end up noticing who distributed it.

I understand if you like films that are distributed by a certain company, but when people actually say "Wow. This film was made by Lion's Gate, so it must not be some low budget piece of shit.", I get irked.

They think because the Lion's Gate, Tristar, or Paramount label is on the film, then they must have made it and used a top dollar budget, because sweet jesus forbid they watch anything made under five million dollars.

Yeah I sorta know what your saying. My Aunt's sorta like that, if it's got a big name or is shown alot on TV she'll be more interested in it, than if it was a low-budget film.

I find most Lions Gate DTV movies are terrible, absalutly terrible! It's probably cause they bought out Artisan and are releasing their left overs.

Personally it doesn't matter, all companies producing movies makes some good movies and some stinkers too.

Just look at the title and what the movie is about. If it is in your taste, then rent or buy it. If not then dont worry about it.

I am an avid watcher of movies, not to mention I go get movies about 4 times a week. Not at any point and time has my opinon been changed because it was paramount, loin's gate, or any other company that is behind it.

If that was the case we still might in the stone ages of movies. Remember back when stars were only contracted to a particular company and couldn't go over to another??

I am just saying who ever is stating that Lion's Gate makes it, it doesn't matter. We watch the movies for plots, stars, action, and all that.

I never even take that into consideration. With me it's "Ooo, that's a cool cover" (Then pick up the DVD case, flip it over and read the back)... "Ooo, this sounds like a good/bad/stupid/fun/cheesy/lame-ass movie!"... (Then I either rent it or put it back.) That about sums up my movie-renting experience.

well, it makes more sense than going by a films certificate

personally, i dont go by the company releasing a film or even the actors in it, if its by a director i like then ill see it...although if a company has released a lot of stuff i have liked (such as lions gate)it might interest me
