This is one of the earliest movies I can consciously remember seeing. I think it was like 84 or 85, but it we finally got cable and my mom put on HBO and this was the first thing I saw.

I know a lot of people hated Thunderdome, I think it's fair to say it's (somehow) one of the most reviled "Third Installments" in the last 30 years or so.

I don't see why, I think it's a perfectly acceptable follow up to Road Warrior, which is equal in excellence. The set and costume design and art direction are beyond compare. The characters are fucking great, Mastor Blastor? Ironbar? Are you kidding me, they were awesome. I agree the part with "the Tree" (the tribe) is a bit slow, but it's not long and we get some great insight and more exposition about Max's character. The fight in Thunderdome is great too. And it's visually so good, every shot is like a master and it has that big, blown up stretched look. (Is it 70 mm?) It has a very epic and "man with no name" of the post apocalyptic future feel.

I like how the beginning does the very 80s thing of leaving what happened between part 2 and 3 unexplained. (Like between Empire and Jedi; how did Max get that truck and camels from the beginning? Where did Gyro Captain get that plane from, and is the kid Feral child?)

I just love it, I think it's awesome. I love the train sequence at the end and the part where he drives head on into Aunty's army so they can get away. ("Not enough runway." "There will be.") What a great scene. And I like how Max has two different colored eyes in this, nice little character touch.

Anyway, I'm sure it's place in my yout' has some effect for this on me, but I think it's aesthetically great and unneccissarily shit on. I think it's one of my favorite films of all time. ("Favorite", not "best film" of all time)

I'm sorry man, but I just can't agree with you. Being a Mad Max fan, I think this film was pretty much a farce from beginning to end as compared ot the previous installments which in my opinion were far better. Thunderdome is the red-headed stepchild of the series and those damn desert kids are some of the most annoying characters commited to celluloid in in my opinion. It just didn't follow suit very well in the series and was such a departure from the first two which really played almost like one movie split in two. So sorry I couldn't agree, and it's cool that you like it (Max is a great character), I just can't say that I do. :D

I love it too. But this pales in comparison to the flawless action masterpiece known as THE ROAD WARRIOR.

Mad Max movies are very 80's nostalgic to me!

I actually enjoyed Thunderdome. Now, I unfortunately still think it's the worst out of the series but I don't think it's a bad movie either. I guess the reason most people think it's terrible though is because it was the follow up to Road Warrior (easily the best) and everyone had high expectations that more than likely weren't met.

Even though the first one came out in the 70's, but yeah, I know what you're getting at.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the score to the film, which I also love.

The desert kids were kind of cool because it showed what a badass Max was. He was like "tomorrow-morrow land?! The fuck you guys on??" He straightened their ass out something fierce. I think all those guys were hanging out in the desert eating peyote and shit and mushing mud in their hair. I know hippies right now that are doing that and the acid they're on makes them think they WERE in a plane crash and half jumped by mr dead.

The problem with T Dome was like the problem with Jackie Brown: How the hell do you exceed the expectation of a Pulp Fiction or a Road Warrior, and I think in both cases they did much better than gotten credit for. I just thought it had a lot more exposition of Max without making him a fag, and it had a lot more characters too. But don't get me wrong, I still love Road Warrior, one of the best action films of all time.

*FURY ROAD: Does anyone know what the status of this is? (Mad Max 4) Possibly the most awaited sequel of my life, it was actually delayed due to the war in Iraq. (Another log on the sky-high fire of my eternal hatred of the Bush administration) I hear different shit all the time, its on, its off. I have heard Mel is still psyched about it and wants to do it and is (thank God) teaming up with George Miller again. but who knows. Early reports had Russell Crowe in negotiations to play a "brother of Max". (No other data given on that.)

I could say I love Thunderdome, but then I'd be lying.

Did I hate it? Yeah, but then again, I was a HUGE Mad Max fan, and I waited a long time to see this flick, and when I waited in line at the theater the day it was released, I was giddy with glee. But once it was all over... I was pissed.

Now, I don't hate it, but it is the worst of the 3... and still a bad movie. There are worse... but there sure are a hell of a lot better.

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome - 4.5/10
