I went to the local movie theatre last night. It was one of those 18 theatre showcase cinemas. They recently did work to it, but since they did they also raised the ticket prices on weekends and a few of there theatres at certain times the tickets are 12 dollars a piece(unheard of). The usual ticket price after 6(I beilive, I know its around this time) is 9.25, but on the weekends they charge a extra 25 cents. What kind of bull shit is this. This theatre is located in middle america. Does the industry beilive the average working class american has money just laying around everywhere. I think they should stop the bull shit and make the ticket prices affordable. How much does everyone else pay for a ticket at night?

Thats a great price for the movie theatre. The time before 6 where I live is 6.25. A dollar and twenty five more cents than what you pay at night.

6.50, or 9.50, It matters on which theater I go to. (small theater, or HUGE STADIUM THEATER)

apparently where I live the movie ticket prices are in the top 3 for price. Only behind and/or tie with New York and California. It blows.
Even here in the midwest, prices are $8 per ticket. I only go to a film if it's more eye candy as of late. Mainly because I can't afford the ticket prices for the rest.

Being a student, I'm not gonna complain about spending $6 on a flick.

I feel the pain. I live in the midwest and the average price is 9 dollars. I don't think the movie theatre owning types get that the midwest is becoming the rust belt and doesn't have the booming economy it once had.

$5.50 before 6 pm, and $8.50 after 6pm...

I go to the theaters once a month and just stay in as long as possible, sneaking from movie to movie.
That's right. I'm sticking it to 'The Man'.

I usually shell out between $7.00 and $10.00 a ticket: depending on the theatre. I'm with Jeo4: I only do it if I'm certain it's gonna be good eye candy... So it's been awhile since I've been to a movie!!

At my local theater in NH it's $6...though I've been in The Netherlands the past few months where it's between 8-9 Euros, which is slightly more than $10. And I do realize that theaters need to make money, but unless you seek out cheaper showings it gets quite expensive.

I try to hit matinees, but not just for the ticket prices (though that is one of the reasons). I like the smaller crowds as well. But prices aren't that bad to begin with. And through work, I can get discounted movie tickets at AMC movie theatres.

It all depends. At the theater where I work, it's $6 for students and matinees and $8 for adults. But that's only 2 screens.
The multiplex my school frequents is $6.75 for matinees, $7.50 for students, and $9 for adults.
I can always find a cheaper place, though.

Oh yeah, student IDs. I forgot; I still use mine when I can (non-matinees). Funny thing is, I graduated from college 4 years ago.

For me it's $6 for matinees and $8 for night showings. Very reasonable prices, in my opinion.

They're not so unreasonable that I am unwilling to pay them.
Mind you, this is because of the crop of shite movies that I personally feel we are going through, and not much has appealed to me over the last year or so... so that has probably swayed my opinion a tad.

at my Empire Studio 5:
Youth: $8.00
Adult: $9.25
I think it's pretty high myself...But I was used to going to the locally owned theatre that was here before....On the weekends at night it was around $4.50 to get in....And they had $1 matinees...A freakin' dollar!
But then again I also can't complain much now...When I was in Toronto me and my dad went to a Cineplex Odeon and it was $14 bucks!

FULL PRICE on Tickets to see a movie?!?!?
DON'T THINK SOOOOOO..... :D
Where I am at The Century Chain is thee best deal to see a movie versus AMC, Loews, UA (which I think is Regal errrr someone else) & Landmark.........
I always go for the MATINEE showings and the 12 plex thats up from where I live I am SUPRISED that they have traffic after 6PM on Mon-FRI and after 2PM on weekends......
They are people out there who will shell out $10 per ticket but $12?!?!?! Thats tooooooo outrageous! I'd rather shop around before I would pay big bucks for that. :D

How do I feel about movie ticket prices? With my hands!! OH!
No, yeah, they're getting ridiculous. $12 is unfuckingbelievable, not only that but I have to sit through Coke and Car commercials now which makes me absolutely LIVID.
And then these idiots in the theater laugh at the "wacky" commercials, which aren't even close to funny. I'm like "You're actually enjoying this? It's a fucking commercial!" What the hell is wrong with people. Thank God I hang out at more revival theaters than multiplexes, they're always cheaper. I'm actually on my way to go see Carlito's Way for $6. Here come da pain.

$6.25 for matinees and $9.00 for night showings. It's pretty ludicrous the tickets are that expensive, as the local theaters aren't exactly renouned for being high-quality.

I always go to the matinee showings for two reasons. The first being the price is cheap and the second being that there's not many people in the theatre. Sometimes too many people is a bad thing; you can always end up being stuck in a theatre with a bunch of loud mouth asses.
There's two main cinemas here. The Regal and AMC. Regal charges $6.25 for a matinee while AMC only charges $5.50. Not bad either way.
My buddy works at the theatre, so I don't generally "pay" for movie tickets, but when I do, it's $7 after six, because I'm a student.
Unless I go to the indie/revival theatre, in which case it runs me closer to $9.

Just to date myself, I remember when matinees were 2.75, and you could see a Friday movie for $5.
To be honest, I'm very aware that ticket prices have gone up, but it doesn't necessarily make me flinch. Pretty much everything costs more - bowling, pool, concerts.
I'm not really sure where I'm going with my point, but over all - I'm not too worried about the ticket prices.
My major complain with them though -- is that it seems like over the years, the difference between matinee price and night time is getting closer and closer. It used to be incintive to see movies early in the day, now.... not so much.

I stopped going to evening shows over 3 years ago... $9 and I dont have a say so who sits next to me? Besides, shows are too damn crowded at night... I dont count audiences as part of my enjoyment...gimme the big screen and the sound system instead.
I ALWAYS go to Matiness..$6.50 and half empty theaters...I did this for Constantine last friday... 1pm...half empty and STILL some fuckasses had the nerve to bring BABIES to the show..and fuck yeaah..they did cry! I can only imagine the chaotic Maury Povich/Jerry Springer FIASCO that goes on in evening shows these days.
If the prices go up past $7 I will call that my cut-off price and stop going altogether...UNLESS, my money goes into retro fitting these theaters with ALL DIGITAL PROJECTORS AND THX SOUND... if they dont do that, I'll just wait til dvd like I already do anyways. They cant sucker me into paying $4 for 1/2 liter of soda when I can buy a full liter in the store for .89cents.. I dont buy their overpriced Nachos, popcorn etc... I dont eat when I watch a movie. I save my appetite for AFTER the show to go to lunch or dinner, relax and discuss the movie while a waitress is taking care of my ass.

Another reason people download movies...
I pay 9-10$ for a movie. I sit down. I've got some person blabbering my ear off to my left, the right arm of my chair is missing, there's no cupholder for my coke that cost just as much as the god damn movie, and someones baby is crying in the back.
And this is just some of the problems you may run into. But the fact is, yes, prices are fucking horrendous. You sit through so many previews and COMMERCIALS NOW (toothpaste, cologne!) that you almost forget what movie you just paid to see. Even matinee prices aren't all that, $6.50. I laugh when my dad talks about when he was a kid and movies were a dime for three. It's murder how much they charge you and I'm usually only willing to pay that amount if I am almost positive the movie will be a 6.5/10 or above, because if not, the movie theatre just robbed me of some serious fucking money.

I can't complain. It cost me £120 for a 12 month pass. I can go to the cinema as many times as I like. Hell...if I had the stamina and the time I could go every day from when the doors open right up until they close. On average I see about eight movies a month. More if it's a good month. That's great value for money as far as i'm concerned.

Children/Seniors - $4.50
Adult Matinee - $5.50

All of the prices went up fifty cents in November ... lets hope they don't go up more.

You guys should count yourselves lucky!
In Australia, it ranges from about $14-$15AUD (that's $11-$12US)...and it's about $10AUD on Tightass Tuesday (which, incidentally, used to be called Super Tuesday and cost around $5AUD...hence the name change).

It's so funny I found this because after going to the movies today I was thinking about starting my own rant about the rise of price of movie tickets.
It's really getting to ridiculous heights. I'm really getting pissed off! At fucking regal the matinee is now $7. Regular price is $9.25!
If prices continue going to go up like this, then I will have no choice but to do something I don't want to do. And that's limit the amount of movies I see in theaters. Right now I see everything, or close to everything, that is out. But if prices to continue to climb then I can't do that anymore. I just don't have enough money! :(
