Ok so ive been reading a bunch of shit about the new dvd formats that are soon to take over dvds and those are the HD Dvd, and the Sony and Disney supported, Blu Ray dvds. Now what I'm wondering is, am I going to have to buy all my dvds over again, are studios going to re release more and more editions of our favoirte movies. A regular dvd can hold about 4 or 5 gigs of shit and compared to a HD Dvd which holds 30 gigs, and a Blu Ray dvd which holds 50 gigs, I would think they would re release all these movies again in a couple of years, which would piss me off pretty good. I'm crackin 500 soon and have invested quite a lot of money, I don't want to start over again.

It seems that both machines will be backwardly compatible with DVD so your old DVDs will play on them. The good thing about both these formats is obviously how much they can store. Instead of an entire TV series requiring a big bulky box set it could easily fit on a single disc. Same with movie series. The entire Godfather saga for example. Or Star Wars. All on one disc with stunning picture quality. There's been a bit of a knee jerk reaction from those with a large DVD collection but would everyone prefer progress to stall in favour of a medium that has been overtaken in almost every way by these new formats? It's gonna take at least two to three years for HD-DVD or Blu Ray to settle in so I don't anticipate the wellspring of DVD releases running dry any time soon.
