This is awesome news! I had been holding off on buying the single disc edition hoping for something like this!

Come on Fox....at least wait a couple of years to make people double dip. It's a bit to obvious when it's only a couple of months. Personally I didn't think this movie was anything special anyways so I didn't purchase it when it first came out. As a consumer however I would be mightilly pissed if I had. At least make people think you weren't planning this intentionally by holding off a bit.

I enjoyed this movie a lot. Unfortunately I did buy the first release and am none to happy about this release already. I don't think I'll be double dipping.

As far as i'm concerned anyone who buys a single disc edition of a movie like I-Robot then complains a few months down the line when the two disc special edition arrives has no right to do so. You'd think people would learn.

I told you Hollywood likes to bend people over the chairs and then fuck them up the poopchute with no lubrication, didn't I? Well maybe not in those exact words. The fact they did it so quickly means they really don't give two shits about the fans, because they know you are retarded to will buy the SE anyway. How the hell are you supposed to know to wait? They don't tell you a SE is going to be made of the movie, cause if they did you would wait to buy it!

I have a right to complain when certain movies look like they wouldn't be getting a special edition. Plus I don't really pay attention to the DVD news all that often to know if they are gonna double dip.

In response to your first statement...
We're discussing I-Robot in this thread. Does anyone really doubt that a movie of this stature would be left to languish as not very special single disc edition? I can honestly say that I was about 99% certain this would not be the case. So what did I do? I waited. It's not like i'm in a huge rush to own the movie. There are way more DVDs out there than I could ever afford to own anyway. So it's not like i'm so lacking for alternative movies to purchase that I can't afford to wait.
As for your second statement. I would suggest that if it upsets you so much you take the opportunity to rethink how much attention you're willing to pay to DVD news.
People just complain too much about everything and this is just another example. Face it folks. Once you remove the artistic elements from Hollywood it's primarily a business. What's the primary concern of any business? Making money. I think it's naive to expect Hollywood to act in any other fashion with regard to DVDs. But it's not impossible to avoid being suckered. I've got a collection of DVDs numbering close to a 1000 movies and i've yet to double dip.

Actually...that will be my first double dip. Am I complaining? No. It's been years since I bought my original edition of Raging Bull and i've watched it perhaps five or six times during the intervening years. That's a lot of enjoyment. I don't think this is what we're discussing here. I think we're discussing companies who release single disc editions then follow them up with a two disc special edition just a few months later. The point I was making is that if someone buys a movie like I-Robot as a single disc edition and doesn't expect a double disc special edition to materialise a few months later despite the number of occasions that this has happened in the past then they really need to question whether they have any reason to complain. It's like Sideshow Bob and the rakes.

Im just curious how you can tell which movies will come out on SE two disc sets. I would probably say 80% come out with some sort of special edition, but how long do you want to wait before you buy the reg. edition. Also, I don't get in to buying these SE anyway. The movie has to be one of my favorites for me to wait for a SE anyway. For the most part the SE isnt THAT MUCH better than the original. And the reason I have the dvds is to watch the movie really. I dont care about alot of the stupid features.

Fuck Fox! Hell, it's no surprise that they're releasing an 2 disc SE of I, Robot, but can't they wait a little fucking longer?! I did purchase I, Robot when it first came out, and I did enjoy the movie, but I see no need to double dip. So they can take their SE and shove it.... fuckers.

I waited, because I thought it was an OK movie. Now I'm glad I did, because I'd rather own the special edition. I did the same with the KILL BILL films, and now I hear that some special edition is in the works. I didn't really like the lengthy wait on that, but I guess it will be worth it.

I dont really care if its a special edition as long as the first dvd released has atleast a directors/actors commentary then all is good.

Doesn't Fox release 2 disc editions straight away in the US or something? We in Britian get a single disc and double disc version the day of release. A little pointless I must admit as it's only a few pound more for the double disc set. Noone I know buys the single editions anyway. Wonder why Fox leaves a gap in America? The same thing happend with Day After Tomorrow.

Man, FOX are complete assholes when it comes to DVD releases now. First X-Men, then Predator and Predator 2, then AVP and now this. These guys are slowly making their way up my list for 'Worst Companies To Release DVDs', right up there with Warner Bros. and Paramount.

I agree, I hate how they release 2 versions of the DVD in just one day and only charge a tiny bit extra for the double disc edition. Also they put a shitty boarder around the special edition making the packaging look crappy. Why bother with single disc versions? I bought X-Men the day it came out (like a good boy) but a year later it got a 2disc release. Why are us fans punished like that, we bought their product quickly so why do we get the crappy deal? Surely it would be better to release a double disc edition and THEN a single edition for those who didn't bother to buy it straight away.

Ah, well I'm glad I waited to buy this one. I borrowed it from a friend once and liked it. But man, I wish Fox wouldn't do this to us in the US. Why can't we get the 2-disc when everyone else does? :(

The box art for that collectors edition looks pretty neat, I prefer it a little more than the R2 double discer.
