Just picked up Brides of Dracula on DVD. Its an effective old style vampire film. The story is a young student teacher lady from France comes to Transylvania to join an all girl school. Along the way she gets stranded in the typical Hammer village. An old lady invites her to stay at the castle (which everyone is of course afraid of) for the night. There the girl meets a young man who is chained to the wall. He then tricks her into setting him free. He then goes on a blood sucking spree. The rest of the movie is pretty much the standard Hammer vampire movie. Peter Cushing returns as Dr. Van Helsing and does a very good job as usual. His partner is the village doctor who pops pills and drinks alot and adds some humor. Dracula is mentioned once but never is in the movie. I think it takes place after Horror of Dracula and before Dracula-Prince of Darkness. Overall I thought Brides of Dracula is a very well made film and a must see if you enjoy these kinds of horror movies.
Not to be confused with the awful Dracula and his vampire brides, which is the alternate title of Satanic rites of Dracula.

I thought the movie was well made. The only flaw, if you want to call it a flaw is the the ending IMO. I found it very weak almost like they didn't know how to end it but wanted the ending to be different. I was let down by the end. Other than that the movie is great.

No, its not an offcial release. Its a copy I got off of e-bay. Its dvd burned from laserdisc. Nice transfer though.

The end was a little weak and sudden.

I have a similar copy.

Have you noticed that this movie cann be seen being watched by the Merovingian henchmen in Marix Reloaded?

Its the scene where Gina is risen in the Carriage House. I find that scene particularly hot.

One of my favourite Hammer vampire movies . I've always liked the ending . Nothing like a good old burning windmill to finish a horror film .

I mean its the shadow of the cross! This seems to have a mystical significance in some movies.

I think there is one movie that starts off with drackula rising from the shadow of a cross with plenty of burning sounds and smoke.

As far as I know this is just a movie thing. Christains do not assosiate any mystical power good, nor evil to the shadow of a cross.
