View Full Version : "Daring" Chris Rock Bashes BUSH?!?
Listen, Chris Rock had me rolling through his first few jokes. He even ripped on himself, which was priceless. But then he starts talking about FARHENHEIT 9/11, and spends about three jokes bashing Bush? What happened to the scandelous jokes? Bashing Bush at the Oscars is like bashing the Yankees at a Boston sports bar. I'm sorry, but right there he lost me, and never brought me back.
By the way, the "fake" intros he did (Jeromy Irons "master of comedy", etc.) were funny once or twice, but got old. I was a little disappointed in Rock, but I do hope he gets the gig again next year.

Not every joke has to be scandalous.

Let's be honest he got in a shot or two but it was nothing to bad. I dislike Bush myself, but I didn't think Rock went that far. All he really did was keep the insults light hearted and in line with the subject matter. I've seen much much worse ripping then that before. He told the kind of jokes that you can even laugh at if you're the person being made fun of. I'm sure W has seen it by now and I'm sure he's not offended. Whether or not it's because he has a good sense of humor or he just didn't get the jokes has yet to be determined.

I thought his analogies to the Gap were hilarious. Rock did a great job, IMO.

Somehow, I'm guessing Russell Crowe hated Rock's jokes... :p

Actually Rock praised Crowe. It's Colin Farrel that's probably pissed off. :D

It's an emcee's job to bash everyone senseless (lest that idiot Sean Penn forget). Rock did his job and did it well. Better, I might add, than Whoopee.
I loved every minute of Rock's schtick. The Bush jokes weren't meant to be "vicious" or anything, I think it was more lighthearted. Good stuff.

Rocks jabs at the President of 51 % of the Country (of which I am proudly not one) were right on the money..as well as the analogies he used to show what a dangerous prick the man is.
DIVIDED we stand... but thanks to this President...UNITED we will fall.

I thought it was in light humor. Like most cases, people are making a bigger deal of something then it actualy is.
P.S.-Sean Penn is an ass-hole.
.................
I dont know what that had to do with this thread, but it really cant be said enough.;)

The stuff about Bush was funny, and as y'all have said, not that shocking. Dissing a republican administration at a Hollywood event is not that dangerous of a venture, after all.
I was actually a lot more surprised by his pretty long string of jokes against Jude Law. I didn't mind, I can't stand Jude, but it was still extremely unexpected.
But yeah, as said, Sean Penn is a dick. that was BS.

I don't think Farrell is pissed. He seems like he has a good sense of humor and doesn't take himself too seriously.
Unlike Sean Penn and Russell Crowe who take themselves too seriously.
And I thought Chris Rock's jab at Bush is one of the funniest things I've heard in a long time. Especially when he says how Bush is reapplying for his job and got it even when there is a movie out in every theater showing how much he sucks at that job! :D
The line about your register being $70 trillion short cracked me up.
Plus, you gotta love Al Brooks.

How did Jeff Spicoli from Fast Times become such an uptight, arrogant jerk? Penn has basically become the exact opposite of the charcter that put him on the map.

What did he say? Everyone is talking about what he did, but no one will say!:(

Rock said in his opening monologue something to the effect of why movie's are failing is that they are too quick in making them and said "If you want Tom Cruise, don't settle for Jude Law"
Later in the show Sean Penn came out and said something like "To answer Chris Rock from earlier, Jude Law is one of our finest actors"
I think Rock said something later on back to Penn, can't remember what...

I hope it was something like "Fuck off, Sean. Just...just fuck off."
