Keanu Reeves' return to the Box Office resulted in a healthy $2,986,988 (US $34,236,903) launch for gothic outing CONSTANTINE. This early in the year, this opening is the Highest Opening Weekend gross so far. Only dropping 28%, but losing its 2 week hold at #1, THE AVIATOR settled for #2 with $1,007,426, taking the Oscar Winning flick to a 3 week intake of $5,459,667 (US $62,578,789). Last week's top new entries maintained their places at #3 and #4 and only saw minor declines. BRIDE AND PREJUDICE with Martin Henderson and Aishwarya Rai sloped 26% and has gathered $2,084,513 (US $23,892,721) in 2 weeks, whilst the Adam Sandler/Tea Leoni dramedy SPANGLISH dipped 29% to a total of $1,982,568 (US $22,724,225). Oscar darling MILLION DOLLAR BABY only lost 7% of its interest over the weekend, but will no doubt see a rise this week thanks to its Golden Statues. 4 weeks in and the Clint Eastwood vehicle has $3,867,862 (US $44,333,495) all together. Another film likely to see a rise thanks to Oscar is RAY which spends another week at #10. The Jamie Foxx drama has accumulated a nice $3,588,749 (US $41,134,297) after 5 weeks in release. HOTEL RWANDA and MY HOUSE IN UMBRIA were the other two releases vying for attention this week, but their limited screen counts saw them outside the Top 10 debuting at #12 and #13 respectively. The Don Cheadle drama earned $215,045 (US $2,464,849) on 41 screens, whilst the Maggie Smith comedy managed $199,731 (US $2,289,319) on 18 screens. Making a surprise return to the charts after 3 weeks outside the Top 20, THE POLAR EXPRESS jumped back up to earn $35,369 at the end of the charts. All together the Tom hanks animated outing has managed a neat $9,476,241 (US $108,616,824). Unable to crack the Top 10, due to low screen counts and nill publicity, the bizarre BUBBA HO-TEP and the black comedy EULOGY sat with $22,000 (US $252,164) and $15,993 (US $183,312) respectively.
THIS WEEK (March 3rd): Will Smith is the cure for the common man; and Kim Basinger and Jeff Bridges share secrets and lies.
