Is there a thread on this yet? If there is, I apologize.

DECLARE WAR ON DIMENSION!!!

Ok, this just pisses me off and I know you'll all feel the same. Wait until you read this- you ready for some of the most sickening news you've read in year? It's worse than when they made Urban Legends 2. Are you sure you can handle it? Maybe you want to grab a barf bag or something? The news inside just makes me wonder if we should stop reviewing Dimension Films movies overall just despite them. Read on and you'll finally be past my jabbering...

Now keep in mind the following news is FACT. I've received numerous emails about it and it didn't click until today until someone close to me explained it better...

"Dimension didn't have critics screenings for Cursed (review, #2), as we all know. BUT, they did do a TON of screenings for general audiences approximately 2-4 weeks before the films release. This was so that the fan reviews would get online, and take place of the missing critics reviews on opening weekend. There were numerous screenings in LA thru the month of January and early February. Here's the kicker... They screened the R-rated cut during all of these screenings, even though they had the intention of releasing the PG-13 cut the entire time.

The R-rated cut that they screened had completed music, sound, FX, and even complete beginning and ending title sequences. Even the reviewers at Fangoria comment that they were screened the R-rated cut, just weeks before the films release. This way fans can read online reviews saying how gory it is, and how cool it is to see Shannon Elizabeth's
torso crawling along the ground....then the young teens who normally can't get into R-rated movies will jump at the chance to see it when they realize it's only PG-13.

Of course the irony is that the film didn't make much money at all."

That's just wrong...

Eh, I'm not that mad. I decided to wait for video on this one, and since there is a complete 'R' rated cut, I'll check that out when its released.

Heh, that's pretty despicable...I used to write for a Dutch horrorwebsite and once wrote a column called "Death 2 Dimension", basically outlining why they sucked as a studio, so this report comes as no surprise.

That said, they are releasing SIN CITY next month so I'm not about to boycott them...but they're definitely not one of my favorite studios out there.

Well I knew that there have been R rated screenings of CURSED out there, so I was possitively sure that the DVD would have an UNCUT, SPECIAL DIRECTOR'S EXTENDED UNRATED COLLECTOR'S EDITION once it got released.
There's no way in hell I'm gonna see the PG-13 version. It's no surprise at all that Dimension has done this. It's just another marketing ploy, but this time it failed miserably.

Yea, I'm with KC... I'm not gonna watch a horror movie that has an R-rated version, and see the PG-13 cut, fuck that.... I'll wait for DVD as well.... I hate this new fuckin marketing ploy to water down these so-called "horror" movies, just to sell more tickets... Fuck em...

Personally, I loved the original version (8/10 or B+) and I was too pissed when I heard this news, but that was BEFORE I SAW THE FILM. I'm psyched that I will be able to see the unrated version on DVD.

Guys, Dimension has sucked looong before "Cursed".
Basically, the only decent movies they`ve released are "Scream", "From Dusk Till Dawn", and "The Crow". Everything else has been CRAP.
And "Cursed" isn`t the first time they`ve butchered a movie to pieces either (though it`s probably the most extreme example). They did the same type of thing to "The Crow: City Of Angels" and "Hellraiser: Bloodline".
"Cursed" also isn`t the first time they`ve trimmed an 'R' movie to a 'PG-13' (see "Darkness". Or, better yet, don`t).

Let's go through Dimension's track record, shall we?

-Creates an entirely new version of Hellraiser 4 because they didn't like the more serious take on it and wanted a blood and guts film

-Constantly hold back films until eventually dumping them in theatres when all interest is lost

-Constantly just hold films for no real good reason and put them on STV months or years after being made

-Took a script for a pretty original horror movie idea, edited the hell out of it and watered it down for a PG-13 rating(They)

-Took one film, delayed it for a long period of time and eventually dumped it into a miniscule amount of theatres, even making the director have to pay his own money for marketing

-Taking another film and just throwing it in less than 50 theatres for about a week

(those two films I mentioned got a lot of critical acclaim and now one is a cult hit)

-completely destroying a director(Wes Craven)

-Only giving major releases to films that appealing to the general public at the moment/have a noticeable director

-Not even giving official sites for most of the movies they release

-Not even having a site for their studio(re-directs to miramax)

-butchering films for a PG-13 rating

Not a good track record, and proves that they're a bunch of douches

I'll wait for the DVD. And I agree that studio execs are dipshits.

Below, Equilibrium and Mindhunters. I've seen them all and I would give them 7/10's. Good, solid genre films, much better than most of the stuff Dimension puts out.

And all were dumped by the studio. They never got a change to find an audience, because Dimension totally fucked them in the ass. Below probably got the worst of it, since the studio even refused to release a trailer in internet for marketing purposes.

I can't make any sense of it. You spend millions and millions of dollars into a film that comes out GOOD and has obvious appeal to genre fans. And then you simply refuse to market and release it.

WTF?

I'm starting think that Miramax is run by a bunch of monkeys in suits.
Equilibrium, Mindhunters, and Below were all good movies, all appealed to fans of horror, but ended up getting the boot.

Schmucks!
