Critics be damned. I love the Rock. And the fact that Vince McMahon doesn't have him in the traveling sideshow anymore is just cake. He was good in WALKING TALL. THE SCORPION KING was okay and he held his own. And JoBlo makes it sound as if he was pretty damned funny in BE COOL. Good on him. Fuck McMahon.

The Rock Slams His Wrestling Future

By Mike Szymanski

March 4, 2005

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) -- The Rock says he's a bit surprised that his wrestling career ended and no one told him.

Although for the last two years he's not worked fulltime for the World Wrestling Federation, now the WWE, he says, "My contract was up and it came and went last year."

He says, "I wasn't contacted or notified or anything like that. It wasn't until my own team had basically congratulated me, like, 'Oh my God, what a wonderful career you've had, congratulations.' I was like, 'What? Really? I'm done?' So I wish that it would've gone down a little bit differently. So that part I'm sad about."

Although his name is Dwayne Johnson, he's credited with his wrestling name when starring in "The Scorpion King," "The Rundown," "Walking Tall" and his latest film "Be Cool," opening Friday (March 4) in which he plays a flamboyantly gay body guard.

"I'm able to go out and use the name The Rock and be billed as The Rock if I wanted to in movies," he says. "But I do miss the fans. That part sucks. I mean, I can't perform live like that. I love the live interaction, period."

Although he'd entertain going back to wrestling, if offered a contract again, he remains busy with a slate of action movies including "Doom," "Gridiron Gang," "Instant Karma" and "Johnny Bravo."

Personally I think he's a great actor so I see his future more in that area anyway.

No problem, just a little technical difficulty in the space/time continuum. :D

As for The Rock, I wish him continued success in his film career. He seems like a very cool guy in real life.

Oh great. Now the future of sports entertainment is on the shoulders of John Cena.

Fuck.

Anyway, I think Rock's a good pick for Johnny Bravo. Does anybody else remember that "I Quit" match at the '99 Royal Rumble against Mick Foley where he starts singing in the middle of the match? Damn, that was funny. He has a great voice even when he's beating the shit out of someone.

The guy kicks ass, Scorpian King and Walking Tall were average movies, but the Rock is what raised them from crap to average. The guy is charasmatic as hell and has an onscreen presence that i cant help but enjoy.

The Rundown was one of the best action/adventure movies i have seen in years.Havent seen "Be Cool" yet, but im looking forward to it.

Me too, he and Seann Wiliam Scott had good chemistry in that one. Hopefully he'll turn out to be the action hero Vin Diesel aspired to be but hasn't quite achieved... :D

I agree with everyone. I was skeptical at first (a wrestler turned actor? fuck, Hulk Hogan flashbacks!), but the man's proven he's got what it takes. Could be this decade's big action star -- I'd put my money on him before I put it on Diesel too.

I couldn't agree more. He gets me to sit through movies I wouldn't have even considered watching without his name on the box. Good luck to him

Yes. That was great!

Actually, I think thats when I enjoyed watching The Rock the most on WWF/WWE television. When he was the Corporate Champion! The Rock was a great face, but I enjoyed his antics so much more when he was a heel.

"If you sssssmmeeeelllll ... Hey, hey, hey! This aint 'sing-a-long' with The Rock! *Gives the crowd a disgusted look* ... What the Rock ......................... Is cooking?!?"

The Rock was one of the few good parts of Be Cool, and he's a great comedic actor in general, I'm personally really happy he's moved past wrestling.
