Nice numbers for the main openers.

Jacket, on the other hand...:D Maybe the arrogant bastard who directed it will have trouble finding work.

What did Million Dollar Baby increase from last Friday?

Are you fucking kidding me? That many people went out and saw The Pacifier? Ugh. That's just really disappointing. In better news, The Jacket didn't make any money. Fuck you John Maybury. May it be your last movie.

Looks like M$B increased about 15% from last Friday.

I can't say I was surprised at all, it had the right ingreidents for a big hit.

Of course, it looked like a piece of shit, but the average 7-year old who nagged his parents to see it with him obviously thought otherwise...:(

I checked last Friday, went up 20.6%.

It went from $1.9 million to $2.3 million correct? Is that 20.6%? I'm not very good at math. I thought it was near 17%, which I just rounded down to 15%.

Yep, it's 20.6%.

This is fun. I like arguing about math. I still get near 17% when I calculate it.

If it would have DROPPED from 2.3 to 1.9, then it would be 17%. But it RAISED from 1.9 to 2.3, and therefore it's 20.6%. You are using the wrong number as your basis to count the percentage.

Ah. Got it. Thank you. I'm not surprised. As I have made plainly clear, math has never been my strong suit.

Nor mine. Unlike history, science, literature/writing, and almost any other subject, you're either right or wrong with math.

And as it turns out, I was not wrong. Boxofficeguru reports that Million Dollar Baby jumped 16% from last Friday. I guess I'm better at math than I thought.

RE:

Yeah, I guess it depends on what kind of way of calculating you use. I was thinking alone the lines that 2.3 million is 120,5% of 1.9 million. But BOM calculates it so that 1.9 million is 84% of 2.3 million.

Admittedly their way of calculating it is probably more sensible.

I would have been surprised if Pacifier didn't do well , it looks like a nice movie for the family , and Diesel is playing against type . What did surprise me a bit was Be Cool , i wasn't sure if it still had a fanbase after ten years ( Get Shorty that is ) , now Be Cool looks horrendous , i think Pacifier looks pretty funny and enjoyable , even if it's rental and you don't see it with youngin's , it does look like a good time , Be Cool , blah , so that was a little surprise .

Hitch is finally losing steam , and Diary was a one weekend wonder ( another one that looks dreadful ) , but i don't the studios are complaining about either one , both looked to make a healthy profit .

Correct me if im wrong but a best pic winner usually gets a nice boost and an extended life in theaters by curious people wanting to see what all the commotion is about . It happened with American Beauty , Gladiator , Crouching Tiger ( best foreign language film ) , Beautiful Mind , Chicago ( what a joke that win was ) and a host of others . Obviously a best pic nom helps , but it's the win that really draws attention . I still think it's a joke though , Million is not the best pic of the year , Aviator is ( really Phan but it wasn't even nommed :) ) .

My point is Million increasing it's take from last Friday is not exactly anything out of the ordinary , it's following the typical pattern of best pic winners .

And oh boy , what happened to the Jacket , it's looks half way decent , and Brody is an excellent actor , what the hell is going on . At least he can take solace in the fact that he's in a guaranteed blockbuster next Christmas , King Kong , so i doubt he really cares , but damn , come on the film doesn't look that bad .

And Constantine is dead , good because that was another disappointment , jus about everything about it was " godawful " .
