Not too long ago we posted an update on Seinfeld - Vol 3: Season 4. We told you that the studio, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, would announce the et in mid-March, and at that time would reveal the street date, pricing, and other details. The specific announcement date is now firmed up as March 14th.

Well, online retailer DVDPlanet.com has let the cat out of the bag early, we see. Today they added a pre-order listing for the 4th Season set of Seinfeld. In it, the reveal a street date of May 17th for the USA. They show a 4-DVD set running 552 minutes. They also selling advance orders currently right now for just $27.97, based on a $39.95 SRP. Get your pre-orders in now though, folks, because we know for a fact that the SRP shown there is a bit low, and will probably be revised soon.

And that's all we'll say for now! We're not going to spill any new beans, just relay what a major online source is already making public about the set. The information is already spreading across the internet fast, so we figured we shouldn't be left out! But we'll otherwise abide by Sony's announcement date, and bring you the rest of the information in 10 days. Stay tuned!

so... ill update this on march 14 with the official specs

I hope they turn to the regular box set format. I hate those skinny cases for each disc.

Really? I love them and from what I've seen on the forums most people do as well. It is a great way to make a case that both saves room and protects the discs. Plus it is much easier than having to unfold a large digipack like Alien Quadrilogy. I haven't seen them yet but I hear that the Wonderfalls set has dual disc slim line cases which means you save even more room. I know for me that shelf space is at a premium.

I like the slim case design for boxsets and TV sets, as long has they are of good quality and hold the disc in the case securely.

Does Elaine always have to be doing something weird on the cover?

Definitely gonna pick up Season 4. Junior Mints. The Contest. Classic stuff. Looks like I'll also consider picking up Season 3.

As for Season 1 & 2 ... no thanks. IMO, Seinfeld didn't really start finding its groove until Season 3 and 4. Then it started losing steam toward the end of its run. Just my 2 cents.

Seinfeld - Vol 3: Season 4 has today been officially, formally announced by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment...and most of you probably know everything you want to know about it by now, right? Wow, so much info has leaked out, there might not be any surprises left for eager fans. Still, we'll try to bring it all together into one place for you! First, a new 3-D look at the box, followed by the studio's description of the release:

The show about nothing is finally a DVD about something! Packed with all-new special features created in partnership with Jerry Seinfeld, this four-disc set includes all 24 episodes from the seminal, critically-acclaimed fourth season. Witness the now-infamous "Pitch" to NBC, the assault on the "The Bubble Boy," the "The Contest" to end all contests, and "The Junior Mint." Can there possibly be better TV than this? Go behind the scenes with interviews from Jerry, the creators and NBC executives as well as bloopers and deleted scenes. Plus, test your "Seinfeld" knowledge with "Notes about Nothing," see unused stand-up material, listen to commentaries by Seinfeld and Larry David, yada, yada, yada.

As we've already told you, May 17th is the release date, and you can already place pre-orders at many online e-tailers (to use links to place your order that will help support TVShowsOnDVD, please check our release listing). One of them, as we reported previously, had posted a wrong list price, showing it to be too low. They've now corrected it to the proper $49.95 SRP (in the USA, that is...in Canada the list price is CAN$64.95).

Of course the video is in the original 1.33:1 Full Screen. Soundtrack is in English (Stereo), French, and Spanish. Subtitles are also present in English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, plus the episodes are Closed Captioned for the hearing impaired. Running time is 552 minutes for 24 episodes on 4 DVDs.

As always, the extras are quite extensive!

The Breakthrough Season: An in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the Emmy-winning season in which Seinfeld leapt from cult favorite to ratings sensation and officially became "a show about nothing."
Notes About Nothing: Behind-the-scenes scoop and production notes
Inside Looks: The cast and creators talk about what was happening behind the scenes of certain episodes
In the Vault: Season Four never-before-seen deleted scenes, saved from the cutting room floor.
Not That There's Anything Wrong With That: Never-before-seen outtakes and bloopers.
Yada, Yada Yada: Creator and cast audio commentaries
Master of His Domain: See Jerry Seinfeld in exclusive, never-before-seen stand-up comedy footage.
Sponsored by Vandelay Industries: Original NBC promotional ads and trailers.
And More!

Sony also wants you to know that this features the orginal (1-2 minutes longer) NBC network versions, not seen since their original broadcast runs. They say that Seinfeld has never looked this good: every episode has been remastered in high definition for the best possible picture and sound quality. Contains all 24 Episodes from Emmy Award-winning Season 4, including "The Contest," "The Bubble Boy," "The Junior Mint".
