Brad Anderson in Talks for The Crazies
Source: Fangoria March 5, 2005

Scott Kosar, screenwriter of Paramount's The Crazies, tells Fangoria that the studio is in talks with Brad Anderson to direct the remake of George Romero's horror-thriller. Anderson and Kosar last teamed-up for The Machinist, which starred Christian Bale.

"I don't know if it's going to happen just yet, but they're talking about it," said Kosar, "My producers really loved 'The Machinist' and Brad is super-talented, and they think we have good creative energy together, which we do."

The film will update the storyline of the 1972 original, in which inhabitants of a small Pennsylvania town are beset by death and insanity after a plane crash lets loose a secret biological weapon into the water supply.

Kosar's credits include New Line's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and MGM/Dimension's upcoming remake of The Amityville Horror.

Horrible idea for a remake, but Anderson is a prospective "master of horror." This guy is building up one hell of a resume.

I didnt loove The Crazies I thought it sort of went nowhere...I liked its chaotic vibe but it seemed to me after a while that there where just a lot of people screaming at each other but nothing was really happening and that sort of pissed me off.

Now as far as a remakes go I think The Crazies could benefit from one. Specially with a guy like Brad Anderson.

And they are going have to make a few changes so it wont look and feel to familiar to 28 days Later or Resident Evil. Honestly speaking, I like a good remake as much as the next guy, but this type of story with people being infected by a virus is getting old. Its been over done to death.

I want to know what they will do to make this re-make a little fresh from a story point of view.

From what I've heard the Crazies kind of sucked but it had a good idea. That is a good prospect for a remake if you ask me. And Brad Anderson is a great director. Hopefully he will become the next big thing in horror.

I've never seen The Crazies, but Brad Anderson has made two excellent films in a row (Session 9 and The Machinist), so I'm sure it will be at the very least well made.

The Crazies is a good movie, although it does help if you're (a) a Romero fan and (b) view it as a kind of prequel to Night of the Living Dead.

I personally think it would make a great premise for a remake, especially after seeing what Dawn04 turned out like. This is a classic tale of small town paranoia and isolation, and could be veryu promising in the right hands.

Huh? Brad Anderson? As in the Brad Anderson who made "Session 9" (the best serious horror film since "The Exorcist" IMO) and "The Machinist"?

Why would he even WANT to waste his time on a flippin` remake of "The Crazies"?

Maybe this will allow him to work with a bigger budget. And who wouldn't want to direct a film called The Crazies?:D
