After several weeks of uneventful openings, last week's CONSTANTINE kicked things off with its impressive $2.9 Million launch, and keeping things at a swift pace is HITCH which opened to a solid $3,507,820 (US $40,206,688) over the weekend, now the Biggest Opening Weekend gross of the year. Will Smith has quite a track record in Australia, with last years I, Robot opening to $4.6 Million, 2003's Bad Boys 2 coming out with $3.05 Million and 02's Men In Black 2 managing $5.3 Million. Trailing 57% in its second week, but sitll pulling in $1,296,649 was the aforementioned CONSTANTINE which has accumulated a neat $5,056,339 (US $57,955,837) after 2 weeks. As expected the Oscar wins for MILLION DOLLAR BABY saw the boxing drama take a rise over the weekend. The Clint Eastwood feature rose 24% in takings and has seen $4,848,679 (US $55,575,635) come its way since its opening 5 weeks ago. The Adam Sandler dramedy SPANGLISH saw a rather steep drop over the weekend, losing 62% of its audience. After 3 weeks it has an ok $2,455,923 (US $28,149,828) to its name. Making a surprise jump was the Maggie Smith vehicle MY HOUSE IN UMBRIA, which rose 6% over the weekend. 2 weeks in play has brought it $401,907 (US $4,606,664). Jamie Foxx's Oscar win didn't help RAY over the weekend as it dropped a further 37%. After 6 weeks the biopic has a neat $3,812,735 (US $43,701,629). The critically acclaimed THE DOOR IN THE FLOOR managed a debut at #14 for Jeff Bridges and Kim Basinger, bringing in $105,047 (US $1,204,050) on 24 screens. Losing minor momentum over the weekend were THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES and THE SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS MOVIE. The odd couple flicks saw the smallest drops off the week, 5% and 3% respectively. After 12 weeks the Gael Garcia Bernal drama has rounded in $3,018,009 (US $34,592,467), whilst the kiddie flick has turned $6,926,465 (US $79,391,251) in 9 weeks.

THIS WEEK (March 10th): John, Uma, Vince and The Rock look for the next big hit; Varsity blues for Billy Bob; Ice Cube has travel issues; and the Muai Thai Warrior checks in.
