View Full Version : Peter Jackson Interested in Evangelion Live Action?

From EVA MONKEY.
"This past weekend I took a trip down to Crystal City to host an
Evangelion panel for the Katsucon anime convention. Among other topics
we discussed the Live Action Evangelion film.
Please note that the following is an unofficial source and should for
now be treated as nothing more than rumor.
One of the attendees claimed to have an associate currently interning
in WETA's prop shop (for lack of a better term). He claimed that WETA
artists have produced more than just the conceptual artwork we've seen
thus far, including some preliminary 3D models and so forth.
Also of interest is that the word around the studio is that Peter
Jackson is indeed interested in directing this project, however due to
contractual agreements with Universal (?), he is currently tied into
working on King Kong, and is unable to head up Live Action Evangelion,
and may well be in line or have vouched for Live Action Eva once King
Kong's production closes.
Once again, this is pure unsubstaniated rumor, and should be taken with
a grain of salt. The possibility for Peter Jackson's direction may
exist, according to what I was told. However, this is not a credible
source and needs further verification.
Due to the lack of news of late, I felt it neccessary, if for no other
reason than to give you something to think about."
More than clear how unnoficial this information is but if Jackson WAS tied to direct the upocoming Evangelion live action movie, I'd be delighted. He can direct but better yet, he stays true to the adapted material. So yay.

interesting
if this turns out to be true that would kick ass, Jackson would do an excellent job and be able to handle this project

I hope that this doesn't hold any truth. I want PJ to tackle a low-budget genre film. He has stated numerous times that he'd like to make another zombie trek. I'd hate for him to get stuck in "big budget" land.

Well, we could always compromise:
A low budget Evangelion movie.
There ya go.

Okay, why would you want that? I think that if he has talent (he does) he'd do an equally good movie, big or small budget. In fact, a small budget would do nothing but put a limit for him.
Or since zombie films rarely get a big budget (if ever), do you just want him to do a zombie film?

Oh my! Don't say that! That cannot be done! Inconcievable! Unexcusable!

Big budgets have too much pressure. You give a guy so much money and the guy has restraints, he needs to make a movie to please the masses, for instance, to get the budget back, it's more difficult for him to take risks.
With smaller budget there's less riding on the movie.
Stuidos don't let directors do whatever they want without some watching, a look over your shoulder to make sure you aren't putting things in financial risk.

What I meant with creative restraint was . . . okay, you can't use a spinning camera of doom with CGI that does whatever you want if you have a smaller budget.

There are ups and downs to both sorts of budgets. With big you are allowed a certain type of freedom, as you are with small. But these two freedoms are very different.
As for NGE, I'm hoping for cameron.

As for NGE, I'm hoping for cameron. Well, I was talking about 'that' freedom big budget has. I just hadn't considered 'that' other restraint.
Now, I asked count about Peter Jackson specifically. Do you ust want him to do a zombie film specifically (which would be low budget most likely) or do you want big budget to be completely off-limits for him?

Well, there's big budgeted zombie movies, and then there's low budget zombie movies. It's more relative to the subject, what is big for a zombie movie might not be big for a Evangelion movie.

Why? Maybe then they won't get so wrapped up in the action and focus on the gripping dramatization of it's characters and... no, you're right. This is a horrible idea.

He can make as many big-budget films as he'd like, but I'd love for him to dish out an over-the-top splatter flick without getting a major studio involved. He could just release the director's cut without worrying about the MPAA. It would only be a limited release, of course, but I don't think that PJ would care.
