Not sure how many here enjoy reading, but for the literary fans, New line has released 2 in what is to be a 5 book series of Jason X books.
The first book is a movie adaptation which is basically there to refresh everyone's memory and setup the next books. The second starts off where the movie ended, with Jason pretty much toast and nothing more then a charred mask at the bottom of the lake. However, his regeneration power along with the nano bots that revived him; combine and bring Jason back better then ever. As usual he goes on a killing spree which is interrupted by the military. After a long bloody fight, Jason is captured and brought onboard a military ship where they do experiments on the masked one. One such experiment leads to a clone of Jason himself. Jason gets free and goes nuts on the ship, cleaning house, but his clone is also loose and doing the Jason thang too.
The 3rd book has Jason captured again and brought to a colony where the military intends to try cloning again, but this time they mix human DNA with Jason DNA so that they are able to control them. The result, an army of Jason's. Needless to say, the Jay man gets loose and prepares to battle himself times 50. The third book isn't out yet, and the last two haven't been revealed yet. I have the first two, but haven't read them yet.
New Line also plans on releasing 2 Friday the 13th books that feature regular Jason. One takes place when Jason is leaving hell. In order to get free he has to fight his way through the most notorious serial killers ever.
Haven't heard much about the other book. From what I hear, New Line will also release a series of Nightmare on Elm Street books. If these do well I'm sure we can expect more books in the genre from New line. Texas chainsaw massacre anyone?

. . . I'm so happy I just might cry. No, wait, that's just the teargas (sniff)
Have they set the writers for the books? They're the ones who'll make 'em or break 'em. The high body count would seem to be perfectly suited to Simon Green's style, but he pretty much writes his own stuff. . .
maybe they'll get Christopher Golden to do one. He did two Hellboy books, so it would seem he's not adverse to book adaptions of comics, why not movies?
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, one can only hope.
Still, I like the trend. And the book about Jason escaping from hell sounds intriguing. :D

Pat Cadigan is writing the Jason X series. His work is new to me, I'll start reading tonight.
If you can't wait till may 1st for the elm street novels, hit ebay for the movie adaptions or the original series from the 80's featuring new Freddy tales.
Also, Friday the 13th has a slew of adaptations and also the Eric Morse novels are good reads too.
Of course all of these are hard to find gems, so you may wind up paying out the arse, but the Morse novels are worth the price if your a hard core Jason nut.

I always thought this would be a good idea for a future "NOES" movie. Looks like I wasn`t the only one who had the idea!
Anyways, these "Jason X" books sound interesting....but the whole idea just seems a little bizarre to me. I mean I really loved "Jason X" (it was cheeseball, it knew it, and it ran with it)........but wasn`t it pretty much rejected by the majority of moviegoers? Why are they making a whole series of books that take place after it? I mean I`m not complaining, but it just seems like a weird concept.

I dug Jason X, it was different and took the Jay man in a new direction, but I never took it seriously. In my mind, it's an alternate universe type deal. I never saw it as having anything to do with the actually F13 continuity.
I like the idea of the books exploring the Jason X universe. It's a whole new world with all new possiblities. Bringing technology into the fold allows for some interesting stories, Eg. The Jason clone. Plus having Cyborg Jason doing his thang is always fun.

I enjoy the Resident Evil books - they're quick, largely unchallenging but great fun to read, so if these are in a similar vein then they'll be ideal to pass a couple of hours in the ocmpany of your favourite slasher! :)

The Jason X books sound as bad as the movie. Fuck that.
I'm totally up for the Nightmare on Elm Street series though. I'll definitely be checking those out.

NOES #1 sounds like the same crap Freddy always dishes out. Good for establishing Freddy's character, and possibly explaining how Freddy wound up mortal again. Book number 2 has possibilities. Taking Freddy out of the realm off dreams is like taking Jason out of Crystal lake, it's bound to be interesting. . .

i just recently finished the 2 jason x novels and they were great. really loved the 2nd one. cannot wait for the F13, noes and final destination novels.
spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the best part of the experiment was the scene with the military chick gooing through the access conduit and losing all of her clothes because it was so tight. that was just so gratiutious that it could have been in a jason movie.
ciao

Wonder if any of these could be turned into movies.

OK, I read the first book in the series "Jason X" which is just a movie adaptation. As promised, I will review it for your pleasure. Read on...
As previously mentioned, the first book in the series is a movie adaptation. So I wasn't expecting much. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Cadigan takes a typical, often silly slasher flick, and adds some depth.
With the movie, I rooted for Jason all the way. The characters, other then Rowan, where very one dimensional, and I didn't give a rat's ass about them. With the novel, Cadigan takes time to flesh out all the characters. This makes the interaction between them much more enjoyable.
Crushes arise (Rowan and Brodski), funny bickering (Jannessa and Tsunaron), and even some touching insight's into certain characters (Kay Em). In short, I began to care about them.
The character of Jason is handled well too. Cadigan attempts to give us some insight into what Jason is. The whole "Anti-life" theory will either gel with you or it won't. I thought it was an interesting notion. It helps explain some of the films more silly moments, such as Jason reviving because a couple are having sex. I also liked how Jason's Uber Jason transformation is explained. It helps set up the other novels and maintain a steady continuity.
The Jay man is painted as a very brutal, very effective killing machine. We are clued into his thought process, which pretty much is the same as the Terminators.
The only drawbacks I found was the pacing. Cadigan tends to rattle on at times. I get it dude the, the professor is an ass, enough already! Other annoyances are some of the dialogue. Very cheesy, but this isn't Cadigans fault, he's just following the script. Props to Cadigan for being able to work with the cheese and turn the story into a more serious outing.
All in all, the novel is a good read. It is superior to the movie in many ways and adds a whole new dimension to the Jason X universe. I can see why doing a film adaptation before starting the new series was important. Cadigan introduces some elements that will come into play later in the series. It's a great setup, and I can't wait for more. So if ya like ta read, and your a Jason fan, give this baby a try.
I'll review "The experiment," the second novel in the series, as soon as I finish it.
Later

Below is the link to "Jason's Lair", a site dedicated to the Jay-man, and probably one of the best on the web. The below link will take you to there Jason X book section where you'll get all the cover scans and a synopsis, and reviews. I disagree with their reviews BTW, but that's just me. Enjoy!

Are they just having 3 books or will we get more than that?
