Robots

Directed by Chris Wedge
Starring the Voices of Ewan McGregor, Robin Williams, Halle Berry, Mel Brooks, Amanda Bynes, Greg Kinnear, Drew Carey, Dan Hedaya, Drew Carrey, Jennifer Coolidge, Jim Broadbent, Paul Giamatti, Stanley Tucci, Diane Wiest, Harland Williams, et al

Set on a world populated entirely by robots, this is the story of a young genius, Rodney (Ewan McGregor), who wants to make robots capable of making the world a better place, but he finds his dream challenged by a corporate tyrant and a master inventor, Big Weld (Mel Brooks), while also being seduced by a sexy corporate robot, Cappy (Halle Berry).

I think this looks like a fun, cute, funny, and vibrant animated picture, although it probably won't be as good as some of Pixar's offerings. Still, the amazing visuals and the talented voice cast should make it entertaining. Plus, it's getting pretty good reviews. What do you schmoes think?

i think it looks flat and unfunny.

Robin Williams is as annoying as ever from the looks of the trailers.

I think it looks really good. It probably won't be on the same level of the Toy Story movies or Monsters Inc. But I think it will match Ice Age and the underrated Shark Tale.

I wasn't a big fan of ICE AGE and this just doesn't excite me for some reason. I also don't get the impression that adults will dig it as much as kids might.

Robots (http://www.angelfire.com/film/kcmsterpce0/reviews/robots.html) was not a good movie.

I was desperate to see something on the big screen, but nothing good is out right now. So I thought this might have a chance, but I was fooling myself.

Robin Williams is NOT funny in this movie, nor is anything else.

After hearing constant dissing from plenty of people concerning Robin Williams in ROBOTS, I would just like to say that I thought he was great in it, but didn't fit the tone. It was like he was part of a different film, and at the same time, was having a lot more fun than the people in ROBOTS.

I also noticed that Williams wasn't allowed to "go crazy" with his lines and he felt somewhat subdued considering how he is normally.

The movie itself was fairly kiddy, but I still enjoyed it for the most part.

This was an ok movie, nothing great.
I thought Williams was hilarious though, had me in stitches (Each to his own I guess :)).
Ewan McGregor was just miscast really. None of the characters except Robin Williams's had me remembering they're scenes after I went home.

Robots was an amzing looking film. That aside the iflm was very boring and not good.Robin williams character annoyed the hell out of me this is almost as bad as shark tale.Even the children here didn't laugh only time I heard them was the armpit fart joke other than that nothing and they were so bored they were getting restless and whiney

I really liked it. Where Shrek 2 went wrong with all of its lame background jokes, Robots got it right. It's a fun, great-looking film with some good innuendo and an awesome cast.

Robots
Rodney Copperbottom (McGregor) doesn't want to be a dishwasher like his father, he wants to be an inventor like his hero Bigweld (Brooks) so he journeys to Robot City to show Bigwled his invention (a rather annoying flying robot which works, oh, half the time). There he meets Fender (Williams) and a lot of other old robots and uncovers a plot to have all outmoded robots (himself and Fender included) melted into scrap rather than repaired.
Now, I liked Shrek I really did but does it really have to influence every animation that isn't from Pixar? Throughout Robots are some monumentally crass moments where the film attempts to be 'hip' and use music in the same infectious way Shrek did. They fail every time, particularly in the final sequence, so blatantly a rip off of Shrek's karaoke ending that I hope someone sues.
If only this were the sole problem with Robots.
A huge mistake is to cast McGregor for his voice, then ask him to change it. Gone is the Scottish brogue we know well and in it's place an American accent so generic they could simply have called Joe Bloggs from middle America and had the same result.
Williams raises the few smiles to be had from the main characters (the other funny moments are provided in a cameo by Paul Giamatti) but his lightning improvisation seems out of place and, really, it's just a redoing of his genie.
The plot is dull, and join the dots simple, with not a surprise in sight.
The animation is competent but, unlike Pixar's work, it lacks that spark that really brings it to life and it really remains a technical achievement rather than a filmmaking one.
Undemanding kids might find it fun but parents and others should really bring a book to this uninspiring half term fodder

We took our 5 1/2 year old son to see Robots today.
I enjoyed it myself. I also like Shrek 1 & 2 , Shart Tale, Ice Age, Finding Nemo. You don't hear the kids complaining about Robin Williams being funny like he is in other movies. Because its not about Robin Williams.
It's about Robots. What do you people want out of movie intended for a family movie. When I say family, its because we adults love to watch movies like this too. Do you want a complicated story line that a 5 year can't follow or do you want fun , humor, craziness?

I saw it, it was cute, but wasn't as good as the best CGI flick FINDING NEMO, but better then the worst, THE INCREDIBLES.
