The Grudge made $14.5 million its first day of release on its way to a $39 million opening, so it looks like Ring 2 will make $40-$42 million over the weekend. Not too shabby. Probably means we'll be subjected to a third one.

Where the first RING opened relatively small and word of mouth propelled it to go over the 100 million mark, the sequel is pretty frontloaded, and, based on the reaction I've heard, it'll probably drop hard in the coming weeks.

I'm glad that The Pacifier is holding up as well as it is, even though I know it's only because it's a family movie. I like Vin Diesel. :D But about The Ring Two... I don't think the word of mouth on this movie is going to be as bad as the critics' reviews. There seemed to be a lot of negative reviews of the movie before it came out, but now that it has been released, the overall audience opinion seems to be a bit more positive. From what limited opinions I've heard so far, reading forums and actually talking to people, I'm hearing more than half positive opinions. I'm hoping I can make some time to see the movie soon! :)

Of course Ring 2 will drop hard and fast. All horror movies do, with very, very few exceptions. Ring 2 will not be an exception.

Anyone who believes that Ring 2 won't have poor word of mouth and drop fast and hard is sadly mistaken. It dropped over 11% from Friday to Saturday alone. It's Friday box office was ahead of The Grudge, but its weekend tally is lower. Weekend estimates:
1) RING 2 - $36 million
2) ROBOTS - $21.8 million
3) PACIFIER - $12.5 million
4) ICE PRINCESS - $7 million
5) HITCH - $6.6 million
6) BE COOL - $5.8 million
7) HOSTAGE - $5.7 million
8) MILLION DOLLAR BABY - $4 million
9) DIARY OF A MAD BLACK WOMAN - $2.5
10) CONSTANTINE - $2.3 million

If RING 2 starts dropping 50% every week (which wouldn't be a surprise) it will have a hard time to reach $100M. Ring 2 needs to enjoy its top spot until Wednesday, 'cause Miss Congeniality 2 is opening Thursday.

Guess Who is also opening this coming weekend. That poses more of a threat than Miss Congeniality 2.

I'm surprised that The Ring Two failed to beat The Grudge's openning weekend. It must really suck hard, as everyone says it does. :(
I wish Ice Princess would've done better; I love Michelle Trachtenburg.
On the limited release front, Melinda and Melinda had a great PSA of $74,000. It's coming to my local art house this Wednesday, I can't wait to see it.

Can these remakes be losing steam ? What a relief , i thought it would do better , but that drop on Saturday was nice . It's still an excellent opening , but considering all the hype and advertising , it should have done much better . Just hope it doen't hit 100 mil , it doesnt look like it will at this point , but you never know .

Technically, it's not a remake, it's a sequel.
But hopefully this crappy horror phase will die out soon.
