View Full Version : OH MY GOD! "URBAN LEGEND 3" is completed, Rated R, and apparently going DTV!!!

I was visiting MPAA's official site looking up some movie ratings and somehow I came across this:
URBAN LEGENDS 3: THE LEGEND OF BLOODY MARY (2005)
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
RATED R for strong violence and gore, drug use and some language.
I was like, whoa!!
I really like the series but my hopes for a 3rd movie were really low now. And out of nowhere, this? I mean, if the MPAA has it on their site it's because the movie has been submitted to them, so it's completed. Note that it says "sony pictures home entertainment" so unfortunately it's probably going direct to video. But Sony's done this before, releasing DTV sequels to theatrical franchises out of nowhere (Cruel Intentions 2, 3, Wild Things 2, 3...) It's strange 'cause not even IMDb has a page for the movie. But I guess the same thing happened to CI 2&3 and WT 2&3.
So...? Well... I can't say I'm not looking forward to it, I really wanna see it , but I know I won't have any big expectations.

Okay, so apparently I didn't check Moviehole this Friday. They comment on UL3, and apparently the movie was written by Mike Dougherty, from X Men 2.
The following is taken from MovieHole:
With writing partner Dan Harris, the scribe pitched the studio his take on the second sequel. "We decided to pitch a ghost story that utilized various supernatural urban legends instead of doing another 'guy in a mask' slasher flick. To our surprise, Phoenix bought it. We did three drafts before jumping on board 'X2,' and lost track of 'Urban Legend 3,' but we're glad to hear it was finally made. Of course, we have no idea what to expect and imagine there a lot of changes, but I'm dying to see how they pulled off the spider-babies-in-the-zit scene."
"Urban Legend 3 : Bloody Mary" is a forthcoming straight-to-disc release from Sony.
That's actually a very interesting idea. We'll see how that works. I am just sad it's not likely to feature lovely Jennifer Morrison (from UL2) or Rebbeca Gayheart (come on, at least an appearance, like in UL2).
I guess I have a new movie to look forward to this year.
EDIT:
From Dread Central, here is the plot:
The film starts out in 1969, at a high school in Utah. A girl named Mary Banner is almost raped by the captain of the football team, who accidentally kills her and stuffs in a trunk. Jump ahead to present day, and some idiot girls decide to do the ole "Bloody Mary" trick in the mirror and bring Mary’s soul back to life.
Strange things happen, girls disappear, and apparently the death of choice is that based on urban legend (i.e. pissing on an electric fence, spiders crawling in your ear and laying eggs, falling asleep in a tanning bed), because our friend Mary seems to have a knack for the ironic death.

I disliked both, so I'll skip this one.

This is reminding me of the
"Prom Night" sequels. The later into the series you get, the less they have to do with the original.

Loved the first, was impartial to the second and I'm not sure I care much for a STV sequel called "The Legend Of Bloody Mary".

What? I thought they dropped this turd franchise after the Scream phenomenon faded (thankfully). Man, I'd use the DVD to help level my bookshelf and nothing more. Avoid like the plague.

i wasn't a big fan pf the first 2 flicks but the thing is-this isn't suppose to be a urban legend movie. Sony slapped the Urban Legends 3 tag on it so don't hate or diss this flick cause Sony put the Urban Legends name on it. The plot sounds intersating so yes i will be renting it when it hits my video shelves.

I figured as much.....but this 'Bloody Mary' character DOES kill people via urban legends, right?
EDIT: Also, didn`t this very site just run a snippet from an interview with the screenwriter in the 'News' section a few days ago? The screenwriter talked like this WAS supposed to be "Urban Legend 3" from the beginning.

Yeah Elgyn, you're right, this was supposed to be a second sequel all along , but headed in a new direction.

Actually..YES:D I heard both things-It was supposed to be a Legends sequel and no it wasn't. So believe what u want. I'm going to judge the film on its own and ignore 1 and 2.
Here's something from Dread central:
Our scooper said it’s a pretty interesting flick but nothing too groundbreaking. From the looks of the picture above (one of the actors, Robert Vito, on set), this was originally just called Bloody Mary and someone decided to slap the UL 3 name in front of it. Interesting...We’re supposed to be getting our eyes on it soon enough so perhaps we’ll be able to get an actual review up soon, too. If only we could find out anything else about the movie.
So it was orginally just going to be called Bloody Mary intill someone slapped The Urban Legend tag on it. But the writers say something different. So believe what u want-I don't know.

Well now that I think of it, I ALSO remember hearing about a horror flick called "Bloody Mary" in production a while ago.....and there was no mention of it being "Urban Legend 3". Weird.

I was thinking about that one too as I was reading MisterTwister's earlier comments. I remember seeing it mentioned on the Upcoming Horror Movies site, but that was a while ago.
I think it is most likely a combination they planned on calling the 3 Urban Legends movie "Bloody Mary" but then at the same another movie with a more supernatural spin was using the title and they just put the UL brand name on it so that they could include it in a future boxset.
The only Bloody Mary I'll see is the one in my glass..
LOL

So, Dread central posted a mixed review for a not finished cut of the Movie. They say that although the movie has a good premise and has some cool deaths,
"Essentially it’s a throwback to the teen horror films ... with some influence from more recent horror ... but with a more intelligent script and more interesting characters"
No word is out yet on when the film is going to be released, but I really want to see it!

I couldn't take the first one so I think I will pass on the second and the third.

After reading Dread Central's review, I think I'm going to check out Urban Legend III: Bloody Mary because it sounds like it is worth a shot as a decent little timewaster.

Well I'm sorry but in my mind if I have to be shitfaced to understand a movie then it is not really worth my time. I have other things that I would like to take care of.

"Understand" has nothing to do with it, my friend. It`s simply the enjoyment level that`s affected! How do you think I`ve managed to watch "Ghoulies" more than once!

Well I see that you have your way and I have mine. Everyone have fun in what you do but I still hold to the contention that I would rather see Original ideas instead of something that is over played or redone.

The film finally has a page up on IMDb; it's called : "Urban Legends: Bloody Mary". They say the movie will be released on July, but ... you know IMDb.

LOL! Elgyn and Hack, you're both wusses! I can get through those movies easily without any form of intoxication. It also helps I don't like any forms of intoxication anyway. But for the love of mercy, NEVER EVER subject me to The Garbage Pail Kids Movie!!! :(

Considering the story is kind of a throwback to the 80s slashers (especially Prom Night 2.... the one with Mary Lou?), and originally wasn't going to be the prequel to UL, I'll give it a watch.

this whats in my mind about now, the only reason I would give this a chance is like others have said it wasn't orgianlly a UL movie so maybe it won't be 2 bad but the first one was so awful and I rented the 2nd but never put it in.

I just watched this sequel and wasn’t to impressed. Of course I had no expatiations going in. I don’t understand the current high rating at imdb. Must be all the cast members stuffing the ballot box. Urban Legends Bloody Mary could have just as easily doubled as a Prom Night sequel. The acting is lame and the ghost of Mary hops on the past The Ring phenomena with a pretty similar scene. The killer is quite easy to spot, no real surprises in the script. Some bad computer fx near the end. The spider scene would have been better with real arachnids. It does have a lot of frosty, scenic, Utah cinematography working in its favor. Lambert did some technical shots with the tight budget and it is a step up from Pet Sematary 2. The movie is nothing that any of us hasn’t seen before or will see in the future. Only for diehard fans I suppose. I don't see a repeat viewing for me ever.

I rented it this past weekend. So far everyone that has replied on here is right on the nose about this flick. It seemed very cheap to me.The acting, the killer, the ghost, all of it just seemed very cheap and a lazy effort to make a movie. BUT,to each their own.

Just last night, I didn't rent this flick. I plan on doing the same thing tonight. Perhaps on Friday, I won't rent it again. There's nothing like cuddling up on the sofa on a summer night and not watching Urban Legends 3.
