When I first heard about this movie, I thought it was the most pointless remake idea EVER!!!! I mean, really. Interracial relationships are no longer taboo!
However, having seen the trailer, this looks less like a remake of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and more like a rip-off of Meet the Parents. Mind you, there are some racial jokes there, but I'm definately getting more of a Meet the Parents vibe than a Guess Who's Coming to Dinner vibe.
I also have to admit, I like the idea of teaming Bernie Mac with Ashton Kutchor. And the trailer was pretty funny. So I'm actually much more optomistic about this movie now.
Hollywood is throwing out more and more crap.
*sigh*

Ashton Kutcher should be shot in the head three times. He is one of the worst actors on the planet. Completely one-dimensional and annoying as hell. That said, I must admit that the trailer makes me chuckle a few times. I won't go out of my way to see it, but a matinee or rental is possible someday.

I think it looks silly , contrived , derivative , with a bit of subtle racism thrown in for good measure , but it does look funny , i can't deny that . That little mike Epps cameo is very funny , if the trailer is any indication , and the Mac / Kutch combo seems to work nicely .

Review: Guess Who

"Guess Who" made another crappy flick, Ashton Kutcher! Don't forget Bernie Mac! What burned me is that "Guess Who" is just so much a hackjob from 6 screenwriters and no fucking clue on how to make a good comedy work. The element of surprise is the basic motive in a comedy, and this movie has none.......NONE. I like Bernie and he is funny, Kutcher is annoying and bland, so why was this movie even made.
A mixed remake of Stanley Kramer's benchmark comedy of manners about parents dealing with the issue of race when their daughter brings home someone different. Instead of white meets black, you get black meets white. It was done to the extreme in "The Sopranos" episode when Tony met Meadow's Black/Jewish boyfriend (classic). This movie is stale on premise with nothing to add, so director Kevin R. Sullivan (Barbershop 2) just did what he could and remade "Meet the Parents" for black folk. Bernie Mac has a good comic style to handle the DeNiro part, and Kutcher is just a silly goof in the Stiller role.
Set in Cranford NJ, and an upper middle class black family meets a white suitor during a parents 25th wedding anniversary. Simon loves Teresa (Zoë Saldana is very sweet) and papa Percy is not taking it at all. So fucking what. The predictability of the story is set in stone. Shitty Hollywood hackwork all around.
