RING 2 is opon us at the moment... with trailers and posters..... I can't really make a verdict on RING 3 cos i haven't seen the second, but here is the scoop...

Director Hideo Nakata, who also called the shots for the Japanese versions of the series, doesn't rule out another installment. "I wouldn't be surprised if there was another one," Nakata said. "I'd love to do 'Ring Three.' "

He also doesn't rule out going backward. "In Japan, I directed a 'Ring' prequel called 'Ring Zero.' It's about how the little girl was killed at age 8," he divulges.

News from the forefront is that Naomi Watts mightn't be back for the inevitable "Ring 3". An insider says Watts only intended to do the one sequel, and then Dreamworks "will go off in a different direction for the second sequel". Watts, next in "The Painted Veil", was in Sydney for the premiere of the film.

Gorsh, they're really churning out as many scary-kiddas-with-googily-eyes-andwhite-powdered-faces flicks as much as possible. I got bored after the Ringu remake.

Well, given the box office statistics as of recent, preliminary production of "The Ring Three" is most likely underway as we speak. Which is too bad. While i loved the first film, and thought Gore Verbinski did a wonderful job bringing creepy atmosphere and tension to the screen, Hideo Nakata's sequel failed in comparison. I fully comprehend that he is one of the godfathers of japanese horror, and that without the likes of him, Shimizu, and Miike we wouldn't have some of the best horror movies to come out of Hollywood in a long time. with the exception of a scattering of american horror movies, i have been sorely disappointed.
Well, maybe Ehren Kruger's spotty script didn't give Nakata enough material to work with - but while there were some worthwhile scenes throughout "The Ring Two" (i.e the deer scene and the well scene at the end), i thought the movie was rather bland and weak. In my honest opinion, i thought Verbinski did a MUCH better job bringing the atmospheric horror of "The Ring" to the big screen in an americanized fashion. But then again - the story and script for "The Ring" was alot more solid and interesting. i actually thought the whole plot of "The Ring Two" was quite disengaging. Oh well.
Anyway sorry to RAMBLE ON (Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, if you're reading this - please don't sue me), but my main point i guess is that i don't think "The Ring Three" is a good idea. "The Ring" was great - "The Ring Two" wasn't. Makes me cringe thinking about "The Grudge 2". I loved the first one. Well - let's hope Walter Salles does a solid job with his vision of Hideo Nakata's "Dark Water". I love the trailer, i love the premise, i love Jennifer Connelly, and i love John C. Reilly. Plus, Salles is one hell of a talented director. I'm sold already. Can't wait for that one.
