Remaking a movie.... don't we love it........

:o

Ok, here is some low down on the upcoming movie The Fog...

Revolution Studios bought the rights for a remake of John Carpenter’s classic horror movie “The Fog”.

The script will be written by Cooper Layne (“The Core”). John Carpenter and Debra Hill (who wrote the script for the original film together), will co-produce.

The shooting is scheduled to begin February 2005, but no director and cast have been announced yet.

The original movie, was following the phenomenal box-office success of his seminal horror classic "Halloween", director John Carpenter teamed up with producer Debra Hill for a second independent horror project, this time in the mode of an old-fashioned ghost story. The end result was "The Fog", a spooky romp about a dark secret that returns to haunt the Pacific fishing community of Antonio Bay on the 100th anniversary of the town's charter.

........ i've seen the original, and just hope they don't fuck it up!!!

Cast your verdict!!
:o

Well, John Carpenter's "The Fog" is a masterpiece of atmospheric horror. It's one of my favorite Carpenter films, actually. The remake scares me. Rupert Wainwright? He was responsible for that crapfest "Stigmata", was he not? Plus they have replaced Tom Atkins and Jamie Lee Curtis's roles with teen actors. I can see the casting of Maggie Grace - Jamie Lee was young when "The Fog" was made - but Tom Welling as Nick Castle???!! They are going to turn one of my favorite horror movies into a huge dungheap. Thanks alot.

Well considering Welling is almost 30 I wouldnt exactly call him young.

I hope there's more of a back story surrounding Blake and his men, I'd like to see some convincing flashback scenes.

I'm glad Carpenter is co-producing, you never know this could out do the original....

Here Halo..
The Plot of The Fog

Set in a Northern California town near where a ship sank about 100 years earlier under mysterious circumstances in a thick, eerie fog. The ghosts of the deceased mariners return from their watery graves to seek revenge.

It's said that the fog itself will be a character....

I posted that info with all due respect to you-

MY 2 Cents:

Right now Im asking myself, why am I bothering with giving an opinion on this subject...you know...yet ANOTHER in a NEVER ending PAIN parade of trying to IMPROVE on an ORIGINAL film...(Yawn!!!!!)

Those who know me, already know what Im going to say:

LEAVE IT THE FUCK ALONE ALREADY!!!!!

Calm down old boy;)

Thanks for that Deadone, I know what you mean regarding remakes I detest them usually but I'm fairly hopefull this could buck the trend of shitty remakes, it might actually contribute something worthwhile.

I hope they don't reveal the ghosts and keep them in the background, suggestion is crucial, it's one of the reasons the original is so effective. Let's hope they don't go overboard (pardon the pun) with special effects and ruin what should be a simple ghost story.

just don't know what to think of this...the original was so fantastic. this may be enjoyable, like dawn of the deads remake, but likewise, i'm guessing it'll be nowhere near the originals standards.

Carpenters got a lot more money to play with this time, they could do so much with this film, the back story around the leper colony, the meeting of the six conspirators, Blakes struggle to find a home for his comrades. This film has enormous potential!!

Never seen the original, but I'm glad Carpenter is involved. He hasn't had a decent film out in years.

Why? Because it`s directed by the guy who made "Stigmata" and "Blank Check" and written by the guy who wrote "The Core"? For God`s sakes jagged, "THE CORE"!!!!

This hasn't been mentioned yet, but Dread Central reported that Selma Blair is set to fill Adrienne Barbeau's shoes. Things could be worse. Yeah, it's a ridiculous idea, but The Fog 2005 does have potential.

No because John Carpenter's co-producing it. Like I said I'm fairly hopefull, I couldn't give a rats ass about Stigmata or The Core.

The Wow-factor on all these pathetic remakes has certainly decreased for me. It's more like a Meh-factor now.

The Fog Remake.

Meh.

Why do they have remake all the great films, wouldnt it just be simplier to write entriely new scripts rather then, no doubt, spoil another great horror.

I'm not keen on all these remakes, either. The Fog is one that doesn't need a rehashing, but at least maybe they can do something about the glowing red eyes this time around

Man, what the fuck?! PG-13?! Considering the original was 'R' and Carpenter is involved, PG-13 must stand for Pretty Good if you have an IQ of 13. This is complete bullshit. You want to mass-market a film while alienating its core fanbase? Congradulations, Sony! You made my Stupid List for the next 3 months.

PG-13 huh. I wonder how old time genre fans will twist it so craven was victimized this go around.

If that red eye movie of his is terrible, I think everyone has to face the idea that the old coot has lost it. As for me, I'd be more interested in this if craven wasn't involved, even if he's just producing the darn thing. I mean he hasn't impressed anyone in years, has he? Been riding on past successes. But for once the pg-13 rating bothers me a little. Every recent american flick remake so far has been R, right?

But I never found the fog very good anyways. Interesting concept though. Oh hell, I'll stop trying to figure out how the movie is from the jack all info we've been given and just wait and see.

Um, Craven isn't involved with The Fog.

Oh jeez. I got them confused. Well there goes my credibility. I mean it was already gone, but now it's gone. . . farther.

I like carpenter. So then, I, I'm nervous about the pg-13, but it's nice that he's involved. Maybe it'll turn out like the majority thought The Ring was, which was a good horror flick that didn't need gore.

Well, the original FOG bored me to tears (though I enjoyed Carpenter's directing, the opening was really good) so I'd welcome this remake if it does happen.

Hopefully the remake adds to the creepiness the original had. Plus, we need more ghostly gore, rather than in-the-dark kills that show dick-all.

I agree that the original was a great atmospheric piece. I just hope the remake will explore more about Blake and his men. Not neccesarily show them more but show how they met their watery grave, maybe an opening scene or something. I just wish there was a cool cameo by Holbrook, Curtis, Atkins, or Barbeau. I really hope they don't make this like an episode of Smallville or something.

Does anyone know if Carpenter is helping with the musical score of this? The original had such a haunting score and really helped the movie.

Well I was rather disappointed with recent Carpenter outtings. I was also dissapointed with the Assault on Precinct 13 thing they dared release. Although I never saw the fog I love Carpenters films from back then like Halloween and The Thing so I don't doubt it was good. I hope that it will be Carpenter's music and not a rock fest like Freddy vs Jason. The actors for me are irrelevant in a movie where the atmosphere must overshadow them so I don't care there. I'll have to go try and find the original. When is the new one set to be released?

There's an interview about this remake up, and it's. . . kind of interesting, kind of offputting. Apart from sharing with us an odd hermit sort of panic. . .

CARPENTER: Living is expensive; buying cars is expensive. Everything. The whole world has changed.

He finally settled why he's decided to remake the fog.

JOHN CARPENTER: Why not? If everybody else is making remakes and they want to pay me money to make a remake of an old movie of mine, why not? It's a good idea.
