Though she was relatively loved by the critics, it seems some people enjoyed HATING ALISON ASHLEY as she failed to kick Will Smith from the top spot with his romantic comedy hit HITCH. The Aussie comedy starring Delta Goodrem couldn't break the Aussie curse at the Box Office with a first week intake of $541,480 (US $6,226,017), whilst the Eva Mendes accompanied outing added an additional $1,790,430 to its bank, which now sits comfortably at $9,545,125 (US $109,751,259). Surprisingly maintaining relatively good holds in between were BE COOL and ARE WE THERE YET?, which only dropped off a miniscule 25% and 11% respectively. After two weeks each in play the John Travolta comedy sequel has managed $2,644,157 (US $30,402,908), whilst Ice Cube has squeezed out $1,513,143 (US $17,398,342). On the mention of miniscule drops, MILLION DOLLAR BABY had the lowest of the week, only 9% in its 7th week of release. The Clint Eastwood drama has punched out a fine $6,220,685 (US $71,526,356). Smaller new releases BEING JULIA and THE LIFE AQUATIC did well for themselves earning the 2 highest average per screen counts of the week. The Annette Bening comedy/drama, which opened on 39 screens, managed $6,435 per screen to give her $250,983 (US $2,885,839) all together, whilst the Wes Anderson star studder earned $6,260 on its 22 screens, and combined with last week's Advance Screenings, has totalled $140,063 (US $1,610,465). Football drama FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS saw the biggest decline of the week, but even that was a relatively low 39%. It still isn't looking good for the Billy Bob Thornton number which has only scored $436,235 (US $5,015,894) after 2 weeks in release. Before opening nationally this week, Vin Diesel's THE PACIFIER had a brief Advance Screening run, which didn't really make much of an impact, a sign of things to come? or just not enough exposure? Time will tell. Going into its national run it'll have a $115,647 (US $1,329,726) headstart. Another film getting a bit of a jumping off point before its national release was the controversial Gael Garcia Bernal drama BAD EDUCATION which scored $46,518 (US $534,870). Missing the Top 20 all together, due to the extreme minimalism of their screen counts were the Anna Paquin horror flick DARKNESS and Mario Van Peebles' impressive doco/drama BAADASSSSS. The former, on a whole 5 screens, did $7,814 (US $89,846), whilst the latter, released on only 3 screens, ended up with $3,460 (US $39,783).

THIS WEEK (March 24th): Sandra's back: Armed and Fabulous; Fear comes full circle for Naomi Watts; Diesel does Disney; Ewan McGregor and Halle Berry get prepped for animation; Another unnecessary sequel; Mel hopes to squeeze some more cash from Christ; Maggie and Judi soak up the lavender; and 'it' lands.
