View Full Version : The MPAA, FCC, etc. are NOT nazis

I really hate when people compare somebody who is just a giant douche to a person who is over a million times worse than they are. I notice how people say that the MPAA or FCC or any other movie or entertainment type is like Hitler or the Nazis. Stop it.

I don't like the MPAA either, but I think they're a bunch of assholes. They are hardly like stalin or hitler or any other crazy person. I just get baffled to see a person compare someone who just made a minute get cut out of a movie to someone who killed millions of people. It's idiotic.

And that is my mini rant

Might sound anal -- but I actually agree.

I always feel like telling those people -- "All right, do you actually know what Nazis are and what they've done? Because if you do, and you're still comparing that to saying 12 year olds can't see a movie because there's steamy sex in it, and you don't see how stupid and off the point that is, then you might have an IQ problem. I'm not saying that as an insult -- I'm saying that as your friend, and I'm just worried, because you might actually not be very bright."

Or something along those lines, anyways. I just don't say it because I don't feel like getting banned...and because I just don't want to have that conversation where I'm been told to "fuck, chill out, dude, besides, all those repressive right-wing fuckers are the same! Genocide, R-ratings, it's all narrow-mindedness and evil, dude!".

While I try not to compare anything to Hitler, Stalin, or anything nazi-related, I do exaggerate and am a smartass.

I don't like the FCC's crackdown on 'so-called' indecency - I think it's crap. But, I won't call them nazis. They're just pricks, along with the people who call up everytime somebody shows some cleavage on NBC.

(The MPAA really doesn't bother me.)

I know it's hyperbole, but isn't it going a bit too far?

Hearing those fellows get compared to nazis bugs me less than hearing people use 'rape' as internet lingo. In a few years I'm pretty sure we'll have "this motherfucking piece of sloppy shit is raping my childhood vagina with a broken barber's pole until it bleeds all over the place, omg."

Isn't the whole nazi comparison winding down though? I mean the only message board I have is joblo, but here, I tend to gravitate towards these sort of discussions, and I rarely see anyone saying the MPAA are like nazis.

I really hate it when people compare the FCC and the MPAA to giant douches. I mean, what is a douche but vinegar and water. It's a simple product with a the purpose of cleaning out vaginas, very much unlike the FCC or MPAA.

So please. Stop it. Stop calling them douches.

Yeah, but it's a trade off. For each one that gets sent to a death camp by the MPAA, The Academy compensates another one with an Oscar.

Don't be an insult-Nazi, dude.

And I think you're missing the big picture here. Nazis weren't all bad. Sure, they killed millions of people. They also invented the freeway and the jet engine. So it all balances out.

At any rate, where do you draw the line at metaphorical comparisons? Maybe if you defined specifically for all of us which insults are okay and which aren't, we'd have a better idea of what you deem acceptable.

I said it in my first post and I'll say it again

Not being able to say 'fuck' on TV or getting 2 minutes cut out of a film cannot be compared to a dictator who caused a genocide.

I'm not being general about comparisons here, I'm just referring to only the whole MPAA thing in this rant.

What if we compare the FCC to the Nazis, but preface it by saying "I don't mean the Jew-killing ones, but rather the Nazis who censored movies and music."

Maybe as a compromise, we could compare them to Nazi douches. That's like a douche, but used by Nazi women so it's a little bit worse than a normal douche. Would that be acceptable?

When you add in the lives lost in the Volkswagon Beetles, it looks even worse for those Nazi douches.

Maybe we should start comparing the Nazis to the FCC instead of the other way around. Now THAT would be a true insult.

what are you doing? nobody makes specific comparisons like "Oh yeah that movie was like The Godfather but only with the entire orange bit and the part where those guys were betrayed by the mafia boss and one of them said..." Nobody does that, stop trying to make this much more than what it is.

Are you trying to make me look like an idiot because I don't like how people make really shitty comparisons? I'm not throwing my arms up in protest or getting raged over it, I'm just saying that people use this comparison and it's a really bad one. I had no problem before with it but now it's being used way too much.

I agree with you. That's just how I feel when someone compares a bad person to a douche. Have you ever known a person that was actually made of vineger and water who cleans out vaginas? Wait, don't answer that.

On an uptight sidenote, Nazis didn't invent the freeway and the jet engine -- German scientists on the payroll of the German government when that Government was run by the Nazis invented those. ;) Some of them agreed with the Nazi ideals, some didn't.

And I do have a hard time comprehending how inventing the freeway and jet engine "balances out" genocide. Maybe I'm just stupid -- I've heard people tell me I was. Maybe they were right. *thinks hard*

Now, you must understand, I have all respect for the douche cleaning device. I think it is a wonderful item that helps women with their sanitary needs. And while I am sure that your love of the douche is very strong judging by the content of your posts in this thread, I believe that it is also a synonym of a degrading insult toward another person. I am sorry that I offended you so much regarding my insult of the douche cleaning device. I intended no harm with it.

Now you see, I believe that Hitler or Nazi is a bad exaggeration when say, 30 seconds is cut out of a film due to the MPAA. I do understand that it is an exaggeration, but I find it to be a bad exaggeration. The other reason why I do not like it is because, like the term Kosher and many other words and phrases, it is being used repeatedly by people. I find it to be just annoying anytime somebody uses it now. I do hope you understand my reasoning of why I do not like the term being used and I once again apologize for insulting you with the douche term.

Why are you apologizing? I don't think it insulted him, I just think he was being a smart-ass (yes, to save someone the dumb joke, a LITERAL smart ass). Stand up for yourself, dammit!

On the other hand, I agree with what you're saying in principal someguy. It's ridiculous to compare any association to a mass murderer. However, it doesn't really bother me but I can see where you're coming from.

Can we skip back and someone tell me what Jerry Seinfeld has to do with this? Did he coin the whole calling-an annoying person a d____e thing? huh?

This whole thread is hilarious. I'm sure it's a liberal use of hyberbole to call anyone a Nazi, but it's also about as funny as someone tossing around Bin Laden's name or something like that. In no way is an association a terror-inducing body such as the Nazis.

But back to the root of this - I've never seen anybody on here call the FCC or the MPAA nazis - have they? I haven't. And I'm always really interested in the whole how-do-we-regulate-the-digital-age issue so I usually read those threads that talk about the MPAA, FCC, RIAA, etc and never seen anything so extreme.

Finally, (too much caffeine, sorry), I can't believe somebody dropped the c-bomb. bwah! Terrible! In mixed company too!for shame! lol

an intelligent comment would be to compare fascism and the governments control over these mediums of entertainment.

What most people will argue on both sides, WHO WAS RIGHT?

Do you think it's good for other to make decisions as to what you watch or perceive before you can even conceive them?

Well this has been a fight many people have taken up in many forms, I think WW2 and lives lost cause of a fascist regime is something that haunts many people.

But I see the point in the respect that the comparison is probably race related more than it is a educated point of view.

Ghandi went though a lot of this, and the movie is good too.
