While I'm psyched about Sin City as well, I gotta agree with MacReady on this one.

I'm looking forward to it really only because of the hype. I have no other reason. I've never read a single comic, and if I had heard no hype, I would have thought nothing much about the trailer.
But just with its wacky style and overall presentation, I don't understand how people are already saying it could be this decade's Pulp Fiction.

I don't know. There's something strange about this post. Something very, very peculiar...
....HEY! This wasn't a rant!!!! ;)

People compare it to Fiction (i kno i started a whole thread bout it AGES ago :p) because its the first movie since Fiction thats something different and has an all star cast liek non other, plus the comics are quite spectacluar, and its like an exact crossover, people see it as not going ot be any different (which is what it looks like) so yeah the hype goes up.
But yeah. I can see the Hype killing this movie, for mainstream anyways..but thats if people dont get into it.

Rant all you want people (even though nobody has actually done that yet). I'm seeing this gem.
Dude, Sin City looks lamezords. They only colored, like, half the film. And they keep saying Mickey Rourke's in it, but that dude's head is WAY too bid to be Mickey's. And, um, what's up with the yellow turnip dude?
C'mon. Who could write a REAL rant about this film!?!?!??!

What??!! What does "lamezords" mean?
And that really is Mickey Rourke; he's covered in makeup. It's done to make him look more like the character in the comic book; the same goes for the "yellow turnip dude." I think they did a damn good job.

I believe the post in question was, as they say, 'in jest'.

Oh gimme a fucking break, this movie looks like fucking shit. What the hell is wrong with you meat head? All the fucking time I listen to everyone "Oh, boo-hoo! Why are there so many comic book movies! Why is Hollywood always copying things." This this fucking truckload of shit pulls up in your turnip field and all of a sudden your throwing on daisy dukes shooting rainbows out of your asses jumping up and down clapping like walrusus "Oh boy! Sin City! Oh Boy! Sin City!" Give me a fucking break, man - get real! Hey, you know what other comic adaptation Sin City will end up sitting on the shelves next too? Huh? How about GARFIELD! Yeah, you all heard right - SIN CITY WILL BOMB BIG TIME.
Fucking Jessis Alba! That the hell is she from? Charmed or some shit. Micky Rourke - Phhttt! Give me a fucking break. That guys acting talents are laying in a boxing ring soomwhere along with his looks. Benico Del Tero? How about Benico Ain't Gonna be working any more after this piece of shit. Oh woo else is in it? Oh Clive Owen. Right, he'll be walking around drunk forgetting lines. Oh and don't forget that Bruce Willis is in there - Man, I've been following his career since Miami Vice, and always ask myself - When's this guy going to be in a movie that's not a piece of shit? Robert Rodriquez? I already have an alternate name for Sin City - Once Upon A Time With Another Piece of Shit.
And give me a break with this goddamened style - Oh hell with that! I've seen Liquid TV. This will look about as stupid as Sky Captain And The Fucking Stupid Movies of Tomorrow. I'm glad Robert Rodriquez got kicked out of the DGA over this -- maybe it'll set him straight, and he'll go back to making real movies like Spy Kids, and Spy Kids 3-D. Hey Rodriquez, we get it - you've seen some cool movies. Woopie-fucking-doo!
No, but for real, I can't wait to see this movie. It looks fucking awesome! Everyone who is in it kicks ass. I loved the entire Mariachi series and think Miller is a genius. I just wanted to see if I could rant about the movie.
Lord bless you, BubbaStrangelove. I needed a laugh.

For a moment there, Bubba, you scared the hell out of me!!!
Your last paragraph was to me a sign of relief... ;)
If you were talking serious back there, I think I would classifiy your post as the worst, and perhaps the only one, against the masterpiece "Sin City".

Well, okee-lee-do-kee-lee neighbor-ino.
One off topic question though: does anyone seriously not want to see Sin City? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
It's actually shocking me that this may be the first movie that no one has bitched about on Joblo.com.

First off, I'll repeat what someguy said and state that I didn't find your post to be funny. Sorry, I just saw where you were going with it.
Second, I have almost no anticipation for this. If it wasn't for everybody else going apeshit over it I couldn't care less about it.

I reserve judgement for the first viewing. I don't know that much about the film, but it looks and sounds enticing.

This is really the thanks I get for trying to give the people a rant in the rant section? Come on, man. Everyone knows I like a good rant, and it was killing me not only to see no rant, but to hear schmoe after schmoe complain about a lack of a rant. If you didn't think it was funny, you didn't think it was funny, but I think you folks are way off base for trying to ridicule me for at least making an attempt to give this thread more substance than one sentance replies. Hell, I could have just parroted every other response that had been given, but no I thought people came to the rant section for something else -- something more, so I sat down and composed a rant. The end of that rant wasn't meant to be like a big twist -- Hell no, that was the only way I could assure that I wouldn't get reply after reply of people who didn't get that I was being facetious as people do so often (and apparently still are). When it came down to it, I put my foot out, read all of the posts, was aware that we had moved past the mocking of the thread bit, and moved on to parody. So I went with the flow. And hell, I even PMed Chemical, pointing out my teasing, and they didn't seem to care. I didn't expect that others would. I'm sure he appreciates the chivalry. :D

I know I'm in the extreme minority when I say, "Meh." Seeing ad upon ad, or commerical upon commercial...I still have yet to be impressed. I know nothing of the comics or wherever the hell it came from, and I have no desire to. And to compare it to the likes of (the extremely overrated) PULP FICTION doesn't say a whole hell of a lot in my book. Still looks like DICK TRACY on crack to me. I might check it out on DVD later out of sheer boredom.
To each his own...please no hate mail. :D

I don't understand the Pulp Fiction comparisons. Aside from the pulp comics connection, and that's pretty vague. This movie looks good to me, but I don't think it's going to be the smash it's being talked about as.

I don't not wan't to see it, but I'm not buzzing off my tats either. Unlike what Mac said, everyone's hype isn't making an ounch of difference to mine.

And whilst I'm here, according to the grapevine, Sin City is like the next Pulp Fiction. What are the comparisons? Because Tarantino had a minor involvment with it? Because Bruce Willis is in another crime film? Because it looks like a good crime film? Not being an arse, just seriously curious.
The Postmaster General
03-29-2005, 08:25 PM
Those are connections, but I would hardly call them comparisons. well, I mean, you can compare them... However, if you compare them like that, you could compare Pulp Fiction to lots of movies. I mean, there just seems to be more dissimilar than similar, to me. Of course it's all just a matter of to-may-to, to-ma-toe.
Isn't Tarantino pretty much involved in everything Rodriquez does? Don't they have pretty much an unspoken partnership?
If anything I would compare this to 1989's Batman, which had similar hype.

BubbaStrangelove, I thought your rant was great. I laughed out loud. And I knew where you were going with it. And Dick Tracy on crack-good one. About the movie. I haven't seen it. Had never heard about it until I saw it advertised in my local paper and wondered why everyone looked so weird. Then I read that the only good thing in it was Mickey Rourke. So that frightened me. The picture and mention of Frank Miller intrigued me though. I'll wait for DVD to make up my mind on this one.
