I'll admit that i'm a rock junkie at heart. But that's not to say that I don't appreciate a nice little pop injection. Annie's debut album is pop in it's purest form. A pleasure ride from start to finish.

Inexplicably she failed to put a serious dent in the UK chart with her debut single Chewing Gum. It's one of the most infectious songs i've heard in a long, long time. It worms it's way into your consciousness, sets up shop and proceeds to sell you pleasure for weeks on end (or months if my experience is anything to go by...it hasn't lost any of it's considerable ability to make me smile).

The remaining eleven tracks are of similar quality and surprisingly diverse. This is an incredibly addictive album and in another universe (a sane universe where people have taste) Annie would already be bigger than J-Lo, Joss Stone and that talentless sack of fuck Natasha Beddingfield. Where's the fucking justice?

Anyone else checked this out?

I had it on d/l and couldn't get into to it. The whole thing was too much for me, you know. Overall, I suppose it was all well-done, but like I said, for me -- Just too much. I wish I could give more description than that.

This girl caught my ear (and now looking at the coverart, my eyes...um, unless there's something wrong with her mouth ) when Pitchfork named her Heartbeat the single of 2004.

They're releasing the album in the states in April, and I'll make an attempty to buy it, but keep in mind that I don't own cds from several of my favorite artists.

I pure dig this debut album, as you well know Psycho! The singles - Chewing Gum and Heartbreak - are my picks of the bunch.

I'm still puzzled as to why Chewing Gum hardly even registered here, it's catchier than a dose at a Club 18-30 school dinners disco.

"Sack of fuck"...I like it.

EDIT: "Woah! Major mental block there...

She's quite lovely actually...in an effortlessly chic kinda way.

Annie's real good. I'll admit I was naive to her until Pitchfork named her proud owner of the best single of 2004, and although I often disagree with our pompous friends at the 'fork, I decided to give the young lady a chance.

Sure, it's pure, unadulterated pop...but that's not a bad thing! Unfortunately, in America the word pop has been synonymous with shit for quite some time. This disk is quite the opposite. My favorite track is probably "Come Together" which boasts some great production and lets her show off a little vocal talent. Not a great cd, but a very enjoyable and catchy one, which in this case, is enough.

It's pretty good in a cheesy way. And she's got a fantastic bottom.

Man, being in this thread reminds me of being sober at a Grateful Dead show. I'm looking around and everyone is diggin it, and I'm getting all frustrated like "Are they actually listening to this stuff?"

No, I'm totally blown away by the success of this. I've never considered myself of being weary of pop music, but after hearing this album I guess I must be.

The thing that really pisses me off about all of this -- is that I know that everyone likes it, I'm sure it'll get play. This means I'll end up bonked in a club, and end up hearing something I just really think is wonderful, asking someone what it is, then finding out it's this. Man.....

But in response to the comments about her groovy looks, I'll just repeat the immortal words of Kip from Napooleon Dynamite: You got that right.
