I have already purchased my tickets. I will be seeing it at least twice over the weekend. I can't wait to see it. Easily my most anticipated movie of 2005. Looks like an instant comedy classic.

I'm indifferent of this movie. It doesn't look good but the exception of Kevin Bacon's horrible and unfunny accent, it doesn't look painful either.

Hmm ... never heard of this "BUETY SHOP" ;)

I honestly don't think the movie looks too bad, I'll probably see it on Wednesday with HOSTAGE. Can't see it over the weekend, that's most definetely saved for SIN CITY :)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^no!!! dont say that!!!
Remenber there are alot of dumb people that dont understand good movies did u see the oscars this lady when chris rock went to a theater said alien vs predator was her fav movie of 04 and everyone saw that movie, but didnt see the good ones.
Dont be surprised if it makes more money because some people wont be seeing Sin City because its in black and white saw it on a comingsoon.net bored i was like WTF?!
Some people wont be able to see this due to the strong R rating others will be turned off by the violence.
This movie should make more money and deserves to, but if it doesnt who cares in the end we know who the better movie is and the ones who saw this instead of buety shop are the smart ones.

I believe it's actually a Spin Off of Barbershop, not a rip off.

Anyone else find it funny that they casted the white-est chick on the planet in this flick. hehe...

Which one? Alicia? Andie? Mena? All pretty white. I like Andie though - met her once and she is gorgeous in person and so genuinely kind.

I thought this movie looked sh*tty until I saw Queen Latifah on Oprah the other day (yes, yes, I watch Oprah) and now I think I might watch it. Might be more of a renter - gotta read more reviews to see if it's theater-worthy.

I agree with everything except NightStalkerGTX's grammar.

I honestly would not see this film for 30 bucks on a day where I had nothing to do.

Maybe for 50, but definitely NOT 30.

I had three reactions after seeing the advertisement for this:
"Oh come on!"
"You've got to be kidding me."
"Someone needs to die."

I cannot stand queen fat fuck latifah. I can only hope this bombs horribly but then again it probably will.

My english teacher saw this last night and said it was quite good. Well, I guess I'm going to take her word for it, and I'm going to see it tonight. I don't really care, I have a free movie pass anyways.

This movie wasn't that bad. It wasn't good either; remember, it's directed by Bille Woodruff, the fellow responsible for the Jessica Alba film Honey. But it wasn't the worst I've seen this year either (that would be Boogeyman or Hide and Seek).

It's just a harmless comedy about a determined woman trying to make it on her own and Queen Latifah's big-hearted appeal works here and for her character Gina, in spite of the cookie-cutter plot (which has something to do with Kevin Bacon's deliciously hammy performance as Jorge, Gina's rival, sabotaging her shop).

The film thankfully doesn't dwell on that aspect but more on the sense of community forged by the eccentricities of her stylists and customers. It's why the Barbershop films worked, I think, because it's a great playing field to introduce such diverse personalities into the mix and see how well they play off each other, no matter how stereotypical the characters are. Also, I liked how the romance with Joe (Djimon Honsou) was a slow steady build, but mainly because Queen Latifah's sex appeal was finally able to surface, and because Honsou is such a tremendously warm actor.

I personally love Queen Latifah. She has a screen presence that is charismatic, sassy, and warm. She ignited Chicago and Brown Sugar but should stay away from the Bringing Down the Houses and the Taxis. There's none of the edgy comedy I found in the Barbershop films, and it's rather PC and uncontroversial. But I thought it was a safe film and most likely a guilty pleasure to the full theater I saw this with.

Of course, I will still be going to see Sin City tomorrow and most likely Saturday or Sunday as well.

Great job BloodyBoi, you did us all a favor and jumped on the grenade by watching this movie and reviewing it first. While the rest of us watched the sexy Sin City, you watched it's 400lb fat friend who had to tag along and would have otherwise cockblocked us for sure.

You're my hero.

I saw this movie on Saturday with my mom and my sister. The ywanted to go and I was bored so I decided to go along. Don't worry, I saw Sin City the night before. The movie was alright and had some funny stuff but I felt I was both the wrong color and had the wrong genitalia while watching it. I even found myself finding plotholes in the paper thin plot. It was decent though but the working title was "The same shit you saw in Barbershop but this time with vagina talk and women."
