Supposedly, Sam Raimi tried to get Chan-wook Park attacthed, but he turned it down (thank God, Park should only do stuff he writes). Other than that, I havent heard of anyone else.

Right now I hear it`s a close race between Uwe Boll and Paul W.S. Anderson.

They might as well get Ed Wood's corpse to helm this feature. That wasn't a very nice thing to say, but I'm standing by it.

Hey, maybe Boll and Anderson could direct the movie together, much like Rodriguiz & Tarantino did for "Sin City"!

I like it. Have Boll rework the story outline and Anderson work on the dialogue and I'd be there opening night.

Last night I popped in the 'Book of the Dead' edition of "Evil Dead" DVD for a watch, listen to the commentary track with Raimi. Maybe its me, but Sam seemed to have some harsh things to say about Bruce Campbell's involvment with the original film...No shit!
Im not kidding here, if you have the "Book of the Dead" DVD check it out schmoes. I'll think you'll find it most enlightening!
BUT....I dont support this repetitive trend of trying to recapture the original films essence, they'd be better off leaving THIS one ALONE!!!!
REMAKE MY ASS!!!!! (IF such a thing is possible!)
So Who's directing the EVIL DEAD REMAKE?
the better question is WHO gives a SHIT???
DONT support this SHIT!!! END of fucking STORY!!!!

Also speaking of the Sam Raimi/Robert Tapport commentary for the book of the dead edition dvd, did anyone else find them both to be boring? I mean it seemed like they just woke them up early in the morning, threw em in that room without coffee and just said GO!

Crikey Deadone anyone would think you're dead against the idea of remakes:D

In response to those who think this is a good idea. Maybe the people involved with this nonsence should go out and get an original idea instead of taking something that works and taking a dump on it. The original movie has a cult following and people in hollywood think that if they churn out the same things that worked before and give it computer special effects then they can just sit back and let the money roll right in. They don't give a damn about the fact the rawness was what made the original Evil Dead a great and insperational film to those out there that want to make there ideas up and use what ever they have to get them out there. The Evil Dead remake should not be made nor should any one watch it if it is made. Go with the original like ever thing else if it is not broke don't fix it.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, don't blame hollywood for pumping out endless remake after remake, blame the dozens of people who see them that cause them to be successful and lead to the creation of more. Everyone boycott this. We can stop this remake trend in it's tracks if we boycott these upcoming remakes but you know people are gonna see it.

I've heard THIS argument before....
In a nutshell...I just dont agree with your point of view, I like you reserve the right to disagree.
Now, Pyscho dude and Draven have pretty much summed up it up! As long as people keep feeding into this trend of repetition as opposed to REAL filmmaking, it will unfortunately continue!
Obviously, you are one of the many who feed into this trend of pathetic remakes....
But, would you feel the same way if your 'favorite japanime' films were remade over and over and over and over....until it becomes so damned watered down, they have lost sight of their original essence?
If so then there is nothing else to say to you.
With age comes wisdom...then maybe you'll understand what Im talking about.

I wouldn't mind my "favorite japanimation" movies to be remade. In fact, Evangelion is getting a live action remake for the US and I'm excited about it (there's a thread here somewhere). You know why I don't mind? 1, because no one is putting a gun to my head and forcing it to see it. 2, because no one is going to take the original away. I can see it over and over again. And hey, so can you.

I find that somewhat contradictive, having in mind the childish way you get all worked up over someone else's opinion on the board ("i don't give a FUCK about no STUPID remake!!!1 and whoever LIKES the idea is DUMB!!!!!"). The way you act on the boards doesn't sound anywhere near a 'wise' 44/45 year old, and I really mean no offense with that.
BUT, just to put it straight . . . I know you don't like me and that you shake your fist at every post I do. Frankly I don't mind (what am I saying, I flat out don't care) but I find it somewhat ridiculous that I can't express an opinion to something you said without getting a childish fit or attitude as a retort. Look, I am aware you disagree with me so other than raising your post count a whooping one more, I don't see a point in hissing at me if I reply to your posts (in a compeltely level headed if not totally casual way, I must add).
Feel free to do that "ignore" thing where you don't see my posts (I think you can do that) but just don't be a baby and "whatever" at everything I say.
Yeah, I tangented out but hey, I had to say it at some point.

So if the guy replied you weren't going to keep at it. Well anyways, I don't think deadone is going to carry on any bickering here, so all's good. I just didn't want this thread to get closed. Want to know the answer to its question. Plus, I love telling anyone to stop being silly. It in turn makes me sound so in control of everything. ;)
Wait, ignore the wink, I'm serious here.
;)
No, really.

You obviously have some kind of problem with me, and that’s fine. By the way, if memory serves the last time you and I had crossed paths was on the thread regarding “Texas Chainsaw” remake. That was months ago and I remember that we had our difference in opinion on that topic, mainly I see it as your basic routine misunderstanding and I was willing to let that go, as it happens all to frequently on these boards.
I have never walked away from a healthy debate; there is the occasional war of words and numerous timeless disagreements. I have been witness to many schmoes loosing their cool and begin to trash each other until they get a reprimand or worse…get booted off. The BIGGEST problem amongst people on these boards is lack of understanding, unfortunately too many discussions end in a brawl, which I try to avoid. Debate is fine; fights are a waste of energy and time.
Personally, I have no beef with you. I feel like Michael Madsen here...You come in here calling me names...blah...blah!
This course of action taken against me is far from ‘completely level-headed’. If anything it’s completely un-cool, you go off on this tangent and start in with this attack like some rabid dog. Is that level headed?
I have always enjoyed intelligent and healthy debate, but If you want to trash me that’s your prerogative. If that will give you some sense of justification to your personal animosity towards me for whatever reason it is, I certainly cant stop you...its cool.
I know you don’t like me? Pretty sweeping statement isn’t it?
Who said I didn’t like you, hell I don’t even know you.
Frankly I don’t mind?
Well it’s obvious that you do mind or else you wouldn’t be posting this reply. I consider this contradictory. You say I’m hissing at you? For the record I don’t hiss at anyone, disagree from time to time yes…if that’s hissing then yeah, I’m guilty.
I don’t give a FUCK about no STUPID remake???
Whoever LIKES the idea is DUMB???
Fist off, I have NEVER called anyone names. So give me a break here! (Other then certain studios and some films and directors…who here hasn’t?) I certainly don’t operate that way and refuse to feed into it, if anything you DON’T even really KNOW me. Yet, you persist in trying to come at me like I am your biggest problem here.
When I said with “Age comes wisdom” that wasn’t my way of insulting anyone, but you interpreted it that way. I was trying to make a point about how with the passing of time for each and every individual you can gain knowledge and understanding. Trying to share in that knowledge, not hurl insults. Yet, how many times have I been witness to certain schmoes on this board who do go out of their way simply to provoke and confront. I have had a number of attacks on me that got down right personal, which is a pain is a pain in the ass as it is.
Yes, I am OLDER (That word has such a negative connotation, a stigma!) But young at heart, I have never forgotten what it is like to be a teenager, so I don’t begrudge any of the younger schmoes because of age that is a fact! Never have! That is NOT my way!
Yet, you insult me then say ‘No offense’?
Everyone here has a different point of view on the current direction that this genre is taking. I don’t sugar coat my feelings towards something and will damn well call it the way I see it. Look, my feelings and opinions toward ‘Horror’ today is a mixed bag.
On one hand I have major contempt for the studio system for numerous reasons, the main problem is a lack of any real creativity as I see it. Tedious repetition is what I see happening today. I am not the only one who feels a certain disdain for repetition.
Hence 'X', I do have a problem with remakes. If you know some history about the genre you will find that filmmaking is a mean spirited business, it is very tough market today. In the world today cinema is being reduced to vapid storytelling due to the studios corporate attitude. You have twenty guys in suits that are just second guessing their audience, that to me is unacceptable and I have a problem with that type of attitude. It is truly an insult to ones intelligence.
I have had life’s experience on my side, which does give me somewhat of an edge. That should not be misinterpreted as being arrogant, just knowledgeable. With that being said, my intentions aren’t to provoke and confront but to hopefully share in that knowledge and let others know of better days, where the horror films had value, meaning and pathos and were more thought provoking, instead of the mind numbing and too damned commercial. I would rather see a new renaissance of change come about instead of stagnation, not to say there is no hope, just to say it could be a hell of a lot better then it is.
So X-Nightcrawler, If you dont like me, thats ok too...

Okay, fine. But please look at this:
You go:
"So Who's directing the EVIL DEAD REMAKE?
the better question is WHO gives a SHIT???"
I go:
"I do, this movie should turn out to be interesting."
You go:
"whatever:rolleyes:"
A few posts later, you go:
"Personally, I have no beef with you. I feel like Michael Madsen here...You come in here calling me names...blah...blah!"
It doesn't seem to me that I'm the 'hostile' one. But hey, you say you mean no offense. Then my bad.

I don't know who is directing, but I am quite looking forward to this.
Raimi will probably pick a young, up-and-coming- director and give him a chance.

*moves out of the shadows now that the dispute seems to have resolved itself*
I'm all for a healthy debate, and I think we've just about managed to avoid crossing the line here. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and nobody's opinion is wrong, just different. End of sermon etc...
That said, for what it's worth I'd much rather the studios put the effort andmoney that they're spending on remakes into something original, but if they must remake the classics (and it seems that this is the case at the moment), then I'll give them a go, safe in the knowledge that if they fuck them up I've still got the original on my DVD shelf. :)

Thanks Fettdog, I agree with that. I would rather go and see something that people put accual work into rather then just taking something that was already done and putting a twist on it. Lets take the time to right something that has not already been done and done well the first time.

I'm actually a bit more disenchanted with the whole "PG-13" horror fuckin nonsense that has been happen lately... I'd rather watch a decent R-rated classic horror remake then an uninspired chopped up and edited all to hell piece of shit like "Darkness" or "Boogeyman"....
I do NOT think it's a good idea to remake the Evil Dead, it's one of my favourites of all time.... Nontheless, I will be there when the remake comes out, outta sheer curiousity to see what they do with it, and if I can like it as much as it's original...

I think that the comercials will give me enough to not watch the remake and that I don't want to give money to the people that are remaking the movie. I can't stand behind that.
