I'd have to agree with Sigur Ros, and also add to my previous list Ted Leo and the Pharmacists and Spoon.

The White Stripes, closely followed by the Strokes. Coldplay's alright, haven't really listened to Interpol.

Although I haven't heard the new Kings Of Leon album yet their debut was immense, a real rock 'n' roll band, which I love. Them, The White Stripes, and Coldplay are in my opinion the best modern rock bands on the planet currently. Obviously U2 are still the best rock band on earth, but you would be trippin' if you said this was their heyday above the late eighties/very early nineties. Two good albums though.
I think the 2000s so far have been fantastic for music, with tons of great acts emerging, not least of which are Interpol, TV on the Radio, The Only Children, The Shins, etc.
However, for the unrivaled accomplishment of four diverse and fucking superb albums from 2000-2005, I've gotta say no band has impressed me more than The White Stripes. They're everything American music needs, wants, doesn't need, doesn't want, doesn't know it needs, and thinks it has.

I don't know why you guys are putting things like Matchbox 20 and Creed on there bc they started in the 90's. Creed sucks so bad. lol.
But I'd like to say The Streets or Sigur Ros but I really only have one album by each. Has Sigur Ros put out another album than that one??
I like The White Stripes and The Strokes but all their music sounds the same to me and I know Travis and Coldplay and all them do too, but they are more of what I like. I own one of the Strokes c.d.s' and I've heard the other and all of the White Stripes. They're just not stuff I can listen to over and over again.
Anyway. I'd have to say Coldplay, closely followed by Dredg. Before Dredg's and Coldplay's last (3rd album for each) I would have said Dredg, but I really don't like the new Dredg c.d. at all other than a couple of tracks whereas the new Coldplay album is mediocre overall but has a couple of stand-out tracks. Neither bands new c.d. are better than than their first two and like Coldplay, Dredg's second album is my favorite. Overall, my favorite album would be Dredg's "El Cielo", then "A Rush of Blood to the Head" then "Parachutes" then the first Dredg c.d. "Leitmotif" then "X and Y" and then the new Dredg "Catch Without Arms" which makes me cringe at times. ek. lol.
Anyway, to make it short:
COLDPLAY
Close calls with more than one c.d. I own or have heard:
Dredg
Starsailor
The Streets
Nora Jones
Groups with one c.d. I own/heard of:
Kenna
1 Giant Leap
SIgur Ros
Damien Rice
C.D.'s that were awesome by bands that formed before 2000:
ANYTHING Radiohead
ANYTHING Bjok (except her last one was just kind of meh-ish, right. not bad. not good. just 'meh...' )
Modest Mouse
Garbage's "Beautiful Garbage"--can't say I've heard the new one yet.
Morrissey
ANYTHING Belle and Sebastian
Bis
Rufus Wainwright
yeah. i'm still stuck on my old bands but I just don't see a lot of promising music from a lot of new artists, though I am about to see about purchasing "Mars Volta" after hearing one song and I hardly ever do that.
60's: Beatles
70's: Fleetwood Mac
80's: U2
90's: Radiohead
00's: Coldplay (so far)
not a big fan of 50's music. before that the good stuff was jazz like Billie Holliday and Frank Sinatra (swing). but yeah....I got sooo off the original post I realize...lol Oh well.

just reconfirming Coldplay, but now that I've read the posts Kings of Leon do kick ass as well. All three Coldplay albums are the shite, will be seeing them kick off "the twisted logic tour" August 4th in Hartford CT. Saw "the Rush of Blood" tour to boot in Madison Square Garden and it was an out of body experience.
But we all know who the best band in the world is................
and Spin magazine confirmed my beliefs by naming OK Computer the best album of the last 20 years.
