Love to Play 'Deep Throat' Star
March 28, 2005
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Now that Courtney Love has had some closure in her multiple court cases, she's ready to resume her movie career.
The 40-year-old entertainer is attached to star in the tentatively titled "Lovelace," report news sources.
She will play Linda Lovelace, a household name in the porn industry and star of 1972's "Deep Throat." "Lovelace" will follow the star's life from age 17, through her porn career and adoption of radical feminism, to her tragic death at 53 in 2002.
The 1972 adult film, about a woman whose unique physiology has frustrated her sex life, launched a government crackdown on smut. Although screenings were closed down by the Nixon administration and the film was banned in 23 states, this ironically created such buzz, it moved pornography into the mainstream. The film's notoriety was revived with the recent release of the documentary "Inside Deep Throat."
The documentary's producer Brian Grazer initially wanted to make a biopic based on Lovelace's 1980 autobiography "Ordeal," but later decided it was too depressing. In the book, she claims that she was forced to perform the sex acts in the many porn films she made.
Love, lead singer of the group Hole and widow of Nirvana rocker Kurt Cobain, has appeared in such movies as "The People vs. Larry Flynt" and "Man on the Moon." She next appears in "Julie Johnson," which will open in limited release in May.
