Now I know I am not the only one anticipating this much awaited sequel to the 94' smash cult hit, CLERKS. Passion will take place ten years after the events of the orignal film. Don't worry though, Jay and Bob will be back and the whole Justice thing from Strike Back will be resolved. It should start filming next week and is slated for a December 05' release.

I love Kevin Smith's humour, and I love the five J&SB movies (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma & Jay &Silent Bob Strike Back), but after J&SBSB I realised that the joke is beginning to wear a little thin, but it was a good send off for the cult duo.
But why, oh why is our Kev resurrecting them? Is it by contractual obligation??
After all, he did quote the following lines of dialogue in J&SBSB:
"...Jay and Silent Bob only work in small doses, if at all. They don't deserve their own movie."
"Jay and Silent Bob are stupid characters. A couple of stoners who spout dumb-ass catchphrases like a third-rate Cheech and Chong or Bill and Ted. Fuck Jay and Silent Bob. Fuck them up their stupid asses."
"Jay and Silent Bob are terrible, one-note jokes that only stoners laugh at. They're fucking clown shoes. If they were real, I'd beat the shit out of them for being so stupid. I can't believe Miramax would have anything to so with this shit. I, for one, will be boycotting this movie. Who's with me?"

Even though Kevin Smith has becoem a money whore (buy Mallrats 10th Anniversery DVD! coming in Sept.) he did realize that Jersey Girl wasn't him. I just hope the yfocus on Dante and Randal like they did in the original because they are 10x funnier than Jay and Bob. And God I hope the name changes..

I'm excited, being a huge Smith fan. Sure he has sold out, but at least he can make fun of himself. But for the love of god, dont call it that.

He's bringing back Jay and Silent Bob because he promised Jason Mewes that he would if he stayed clean. Now that he is, he feels obliged to do it. Still, if it brings Smith back to foul-mouthed hilarious comedy, then I welcome it.

1-Jersey Girl was a really, really good movie. 10/10 for me. Seriously. I was giggling at a baby... I HATE BABIES!!! A line delivered by George Carlin had me choking back tears... the movie had amazing everything, and I don't give a damn what anyone else thinks.
2-The guy's famous for making a movie that was largely about dick jokes and over-dramatized everyday life. His "career is over"? The dude's gone farther on the back of that one film than most humans could ever hope for. If it all ended for him today, I think it would be more of a "damn, look how far he actually got".
3-How can getting more Jay and Silent Bob possibly draw this much bitching? It's going to be good, and it's going to be funny. Can't we all just get in line, open our wallets, and accept the goodness that we shall recieve?
Personally, I don't know of anything that the man's ever touched that hasn't been golden. The more Smith, the better.

Till then, I'll reserve judgement on how over his career actually is.

If you guys would take the time to head over to Smith's message boards, you would know that Clerks 2 is Dante and Randal's movie and Jay and Bob will have about as much screen time as the 1st clerks and won't be a big part of the story. He also explains the reasons for making the movie too. It's not about money, in fact I think he is getting little or nothing for making it. He along with most of the crew will get their money on the backend if the movie does good.
But you guys would never pass judgement on a movie you haven't seen and know nothing about, now would you?

Hey, buddy, let's see you make a movie. Until then, shut yer piehole.
Or at least come up with a reason why he's a hack other than "OMG he's parodying himself", cause a lot of filmmakers have done that.

I'm split. I'm a Kevin Smith fan, love DOGMA, love MALLRATS, love CHASING AMY, almost love CLERKS, and hell, even have a soft spot for JERSEY GIRL. Even love most of his comic book work (he actually made the Green Arrow cool, for fuck's sake!) But JAY & SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK didn't do it for me as much, even though it was fun, and I fear this might be some of the same -- same joke over and over again, wearing a little thin, and Smith being a little self-content over his own characters and bringing them back when they don't really need to be brought back for me.
But hey, maybe I'm wrong. I'll definitely be there to check it out and make myself my own opinion.

Chill out, man. You wanna kick people, start a fight club, because this isn't the place. You can't just tell people to "shut their piehole" or that they deserve a "kick in the face" or that their ass and their head is similar. Anyone who is a REAL Kevin Smith fan uderstands that Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Dogma are not "Jay ans Silent Bob" movies. Jay and Silent Bob are merely characters in those movies. The only "Jay and Silent Bob" movie is the one with them in the title. To say that Chasing Amy or Dogma, for example, are J&SB movies is to totally miss the point! Also, I don't think Kevin Smith movies have made all that much in the theaters. I don't think he's even broken the 35K barrier. Most of his money comes from DVD sales and merchandising. Lastly, I think Kevin Smith can do anything he wants. His movies are not perfect, but I've never been bored by a Kevin Smith movie. That's more than I can say for some of these other hacks out there.

Ok, I have a big place in my movie intellegence for Kevin Smith. He is one of the most innovative directors of Comedic dilogue. Clerks was one of the most brillant movies of the 90's(oh, wait. It followed Slacker as one of the most.) It helped even further progress the changes of Independent cinema, and helped some of the most influential. Mallrats was un-Kevin Smith, and went against what he was doing with Clerks(basically small budget), but it is still a good flick. I love Chasing Amy, which has some of the best acting. Also, I thought Dogma and Jersey Girl were just ok, they weren't his best work. In a time where all of the greats are getting sequels or remade, We thought that some were safe, and some were not. Clerks is NOT a movie that deserves a sequel. It is one of those movies that just needs to be kept brillantly intact in our memories. But if it does happen, they need to change that shitty-ass title to something else, that title sucks.
P.S. EvilEd, we all like you, but your statements have rubbed off as rude, and you just can't force your opinions on people. We do have our own opnions. They also came off as rude.

That'd be my thing with Kevin Smith. I think he's a far better writer than he is director. I mean, he's a solid director, and I think that's made even stronger by the fact that he knows comedic timing and he knows how to cast the right actors, but other than that, in the little things, and the scope, and the rhythm of his movies, sometimes it does feel like he's lacking something. Whereas he's just a terrific writer, especially of dialogue.
That's what sometimes bothers me with his films. The dialogue is beautiful, the casting is perfect, but sometimes the rest has a hard time to follow.

I believe one of the rules here is to not just post "____ sucks!" but to post intelligent discussion, more than just saying something sucks, why does it suck or is great, etc.
That guy didn't, he said Kev was a hack without saying why. I called him on it.
Also, I have no problems with JoBlo or anyone expressing an opinion, as long as it is done intelligently and thoughtfully and it more than a few words.

I don’t really care if the film is equally as bad as VAN HELSING, I’ll see it just the same.
And am I the only one who finds the Title PASSION OF THE CLERKS funny?... and not in clever sorts of course, but in a sort of non-clever approach. I laugh at things that make me go *huh?,* just put it that way.
If it doesn’t make sense (which it probably doesn’t) let me reiterate and simplify:
The title is so ridiculously unfunny, that it’s funny… you’re supposed to laugh at it rather then with it.

Whichi is exactly why I think he should make films like Clerks 2 instead of say, Green Hornet.
But I would rather see him tackle something original than this one, but I'll still see it. Here's hoping he gets his shit back together and gets his Fletch and Ranger Danger and whatnots out and kicking ass, I'm still a fan.

C'mon, dude, these rules are what keep this place together. If we didn't have those rules and didn't all respect them, this place would be the IMDB boards -- utter, disrespectful, chaos.
But hey, I can understand you saying this doesn't need to be dragged on too long either, and I agree, it's not because someone makes a mistake that we should keep riding his ass into next week, that's just as bad. But trust me, things can escalate and get ugly pretty fast, so when someone slips, we try to be there early enough to make sure everyone calms down before we have to ban people for a misunderstanding or slip of the keyboard that could've been avoided.

Fair enough too. It's definitely more up his alley -- but I'm not so hot on the idea. Don't know. Maybe it's just the title, or the impression that he's only doing it because the change he tried with JERSEY GIRL didn't work out too well, and before going with another change with GREEN HORNET, he needs to get a hand back on his original fans. I don't know. I'm not sure about it, but I'll be there to check it out, if only because it'd be the first Kevin Smith-directed movie I'd see in theaters (caught all the others on TV or VHS or DVD).

So um...yeah...About CLERKS 2....
I'm really looking forward to this film. I've been hearing about it for a while now and i've heard lots of news from Kev himself. Looks like it could be great sctually. The first was great and I think that Dante and Randal are two of his best characters.
Oh and just so you know, Silent Bob says nothing. Kev is quoted as saying that, "Silent Bob has nothing to say" and "It's totally Dante and Randal'S movie"
So yeah.....Clerks 2
By the way, Chasing Amy should have been nominated for writing that year.
