Waters Uncovers 'Secret Life of Walter Mitty'
March 29, 2005

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - "Mean Girls" helmer Mark Waters is joining the remake game.

The filmmaker has been hired by Paramount to direct the second film version of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty," report news sources.

Based on a short story by James Thurber and adapted into a Danny Kaye film in 1947, the story centers on a shy guy who escapes his humdrum life through his swashbuckling daydreams.

The remake has been in the works for years and once had Jim Carrey attached to star under Steven Spielberg's direction. Father and son team Samuel Goldwyn Jr. and John Goldwyn will produce.

Waters' credits include "The House of Yes" and "Freaky Friday." He recently finished shooting the Reese Witherspoon-Mark Ruffalo romantic comedy in which a man falls for the ghost of a woman who inhabits his apartment.

Bad ass. This story kicks ass. I was so stoked when I heard that Carrey's was attached. I hope they don't get someone new. I'd still like to see Carrey in the role. It fits his talents well.
