Yeah, I know most people will most likly castrate me for this, but... I hate Venom with a bloody passion!
Well, maybe not Venom, he's a decent villian, but more like the damn fanbase he has!
I mean sweet jesus, everytime there's news about a Spider-man movie everyone is pissed because Venom is not involved. He is a Villian that Debuted in the 80's, when comic books were a dying breed, and I give him credit for getting people back into Spidey again.. But I don't believe he is anything special! He's the cliche evil twin of the hero. I've seen that a million times. Every comic book has one, even Sonic! But for some reason Venom becomes the most popular out of all them. Why? Because his he has big teeth and a long tongue? Lizard has that. Because he can mold his body into shapes? Sandman has that. Is it because he's got all of Spider-man's powers? That's nothing special. Anyone can take Spider-man, paint him black, and say "Hey, here's a new villian!"
And what is with Carnage? They couldn't make the evil twin evil enough so they made an evil twin of the evil twin? What the hell? Then Carnage gets bloody popular too! I mean, jesus, all they are are clones of Spidey! How is that exciting? Doc Ock, Lizard, Mysterio, Chameleon, Rhino, Vulture, all these guys have been around since the 60s! They've been developed and changed with the times as things go on. They've paid their dos. Why must Venom be put ahead of all of them?
And Venom is not Spider-man's Arch Nemesis. He is not his Joker, he is not his Lex Luthor. As cool as he is visually, he hasn't done anything to hold that position. So he's eaten a few brains, brainless zombies do that! Green Goblin is his Arch Nemesis. Harry and Norman. Norman killed Peter's first love. No, he made Peter kill her himself. (He dropped her off the bridge, Spidey tried to catch her with his webs, the webline caused a whiplash and broke her neck.) He's played mind games with Parker and his family/friends. He's ruined his life on numerous occasions. He's the arch nemesis through and through. (Which is most likly why Raimi chose to develop Harry and Norman first.)
And last but not least... All the hate for other villians. I can understand hating someone like Vulture, he isn't very visually exciting and his character isn't much... But why all the hate for Lizard, Sandman, Mysterio? These characters all have great traights in 'em! Why would it be a bad thing to put these in the movies? I can understand the argument behind Mysterio, because there wouldn't be many visually exciting fights (he'd do best as a side villian), but come on. These other guys can be visually exciting too and be worked to be great characters if their current ones don't work well as it is. Look at how well Ock looked!
Yeah, I know, you probably all hate me now. And I know it's a shittily structured rant. Go easy on me. :(
