What's the word on this so far?

Just read a pretty positive review from Harry from Aint it Cool, but that's the only reviews I've seen so far. They seem to think it was a lot of fun, and better than expected from trailers.

Looks like a solid action/adventure flick from what I've seen.

I'll see it, not expecting a whole lot, sort of a After The Sunset, National Treasure, Flight Of The Pheonix kind of a thing. I enjoyed those flims well enough, dont see why I wouldnt enjoy Sahara . I'll be there opening day.

Looks alright, sadly, it could very easily be bloated with CGI.

You think about the CGI? I didn't get that impression from the trailers. But we'll see.

Caught the film tonight, pretty fun and undemanding. And don't worry not CGI bloated.

My Sahara review

I haven't read the books from Clive Cussler about adventure seeker Dirk Pitt, so I can't really compare this film outing to the novel pages, but I did find out there are bits and pieces that have translated to the screen, and wether or not that'll upset fans of the book, who knows, but as a movie goer wanting a fun film experience, Sahara certainly proves a good destination. During the opening credits we get the catch up just how much of a world-wide traveller Pitt (a tanned and toned Matthew McConaughey) and his sidekick (the always amusing Steve Zahn) really are, so it doesn't waste anytime there. Thus the two are kinda just thrust upon us, and don't get any real character exploration, but we get the kind of people these two are and it's hard not to like the duo of McConaughey and Zahn, who play off each other well and create great buddy chemistry. Penelope Cruz, who does very little for me, is quite good here. She's a caring doctor searching for the answer behind a toxic plague, and her search for this with Pitt's hunting of an ancient ship intertwine, bringing the two together. There's the usual romance angle between these two characters, and though its rushed, it doesn't feel forced. Although there's more sparks between McConaughey and Zahn. Lambert Wilson (last seen hamming it up as Sharon Stone's husband in 'Catwoman') plays the villain to a tee, and comes off better here than he did in the aforementioned feline comic disaster, howeever he doesn't quite feel smug enough, he's easy to hate sure, but he could've gone that extra mile. William H.Macy provides fun support as the admiral trying to keep Pitt under control, and Delroy Lindo shows up briefly for one scene, making me think that perhaps some of hsi other moments were left on the cutting room floor. The desert and all the towns and discoveries it leads to make a nice backdrop, and there's plenty of well placed humour peppered throughout the script to keep things light and entertaining, as well as a few outlandish stunts (Re-creating the old plane in the desert) and action sequences (The speed boat escapade was fun). For people who like the Indiana Jones series, or last years 'National Treasure' should be amused by this, but it is far from an Indiana substitute, but definitely a fun action ride, that I hope will lead to a few more adventures for McConaughey and Zahn. 7/10

I don't think that his character should feel smug, because he isn't really the one who is in control of everything. Anyway, other than that, I agree with everything you wrote. That was a great review! :)

If I see this movie. It would be because of Steve Zahn. I think he is so cool.
