The first Kill Bill had an opening weekend multiplier of 2.7, the second, 2.3. This seems to have better word of mouth than both (maybe I'm wrong) so I think a multiplier in the area of 3.1 is about right. Should have an opening weekend in the neighborhood of $37.2 million.

not bad numbers, my theater was packed
Must admit, that's more than I thought it would do on Friday. I'll be anxious to see what the multiplier is...

Word of mouth has nothing to do with the IM for Sin City. It should have a IM of 2.4 (Midnight showings inflated Friday's number) and should end up with 29-30 million for the weekend.

BoxOfficeGuru has the Friday number at $11.6 million, projecting a weekend gross between $29 and $31 million.
The IM is usually a good indication of a film's legs. Since Sin City seems to have good word of mouth, I expect good legs, therefore, a higher internal multiplier.

I just went back to the Kill Bill Volume 1 thread in the Current Movie Talk section and the more I read, the more I feel the multiplier on this getting lower. It seems it will perform quite similarly to Kill Bill Vol. 1 sadly. But hey, that's better than Kill Bill Vol. 2 right?
With a 2.7 multiplier, that gives it, depending on which Friday # you use, $31.3 or $32.4 million. Still impressive. I hope its closer to $40 though.

Where is all this good word of mouth talk coming from? Like it or not, this movie has very limited wide appeal. Generally speaking, women and viewers over the age of 35 are not going to be interested in seeing it. That doesn't mean all women and all viewers over 35, but most of them. Plus, it's R, so a lot of boys under age 17 are going to have to sneak in if they want to see it (save for the theaters that don't card). No one should be surprised by the $28 million opening weekend. I think that is pretty damn good for a hard R with limited appeal.

True. The more I read about Kill Bill, the less optimistic I am.
