This love affair started sometime last year during The Sopranos' finale when Glad Tidings was used in one of the key scenes (".. and we bring you glad tidings from New York"). I've slowly been accumulating his work which is enormous, but his early stuff remains my favorite.

The two best albums, IMO, are Astral Weeks and Moondance, both exquisite and deeply moving. Any other fans of this underrated genius? Into The Mystic, And It Stoned Me, Moondance and Crazy Love may be some of the purest finest songs ever recorded. And anything you want to recommend from his later years that I'm overlooking?

Yeah, Van Morrison's great. He's definitely my favorite artist for that style of music (although off the top of my head I couldn't tell you who any others are that I listen to from that style). I agree with BakeTheMooCow on his best albums, and I also reccomend digging up his performance of Caravan from the Last Waltz.

Yeah, his performance in "The Last Waltz" is one of the highlights of the film, and is something you should definitely check out.

I also agree that his early work is the best. "...And it Stoned Me" is my favourite song of his, and just love the whole Moondance album.

Bake - the album that you thumbnailed, St Something's Something(I'm stoened) has actually become my favorite. Gypsy and Jackie Wilson Says are about my favorite VM singles.

I dont know how available it is , but I'm quite positive that his work with THEM (and their self titled album) is a stroke of motherfucking R&R genius. I have it on vinyl and it gets played nonstop in my house.

Avoid a lot of his later stuff.. some of its - bad. eeg.
