It may be a little early to be considering next years oscars but I wondered what films coming out this year that you guys thought may recieve oscar nomiantions.
Heres a few of my tips
The Cinderella Man- maybe a little too obvious but judging by the trailer it looks both moving and powerful, will be a definate oscar contender.
Kingdom of Heaven- What with Ridley Scott directing, should recieve award nominations, could be this years Gladiator, although its unlikely Orlando Bloom can compete with Russell Crowes performance in Galdiator.
Sin City- Could possibly recieve an award for its style and directing technique.
The Assination of Richard Nixon- Early buzz suggests its Penn's best performance yet.
The Interpreter- Wouldn't be to suprised to see Penn and Kidman being talked about for Oscar nominations.
War of the Worlds- May earn Spielberg an Oscar nomination
Millions- British Drama that could recieve nominations
Star Wars episode III- Its the finale may well be an oscar contender

Subtracts STAR WARS, MILLIONS and SIN CITY and you have a nice list.

Of those listed, only Cinderella Man and Kingdom of Heaven have a shot at the major awards though Star Wars and War of the Worlds will definately get plenty of technical nominations/awards.
And The Assassination of Richard Nixon is actually a 2004 movie. It opened for a few weeks in New York and LA to qualify for the Academy Awards. So, although it didn't come out wider until 2005, it's still really a 2004 flick.

SIN CITY !!!
Ok, I kid, I kid.
But seriously, I would like to see SIN CITY nominated for Cinematography and Special Effects, and possibly make-up.

Oh, come on, "Millions" at least deserves a nom for best foreign film. If not more.

From what I know so far, I'd say War of the Worlds stands a good chance at an Oscar but not sure which category - maybe best director?

Sin City probably won't get a best pic nom since Rodriguez quit the Director's Guild
Star Wars and War of the Worlds at the least will get a viz effects nom

I think we should wait until the last two months of 2005, where them Oscar movies normally release.

i loved Sin City, but it doesn't fit the formula that all of the Best Pic Oscar winners of the last couple decades have followed. However, just because the old farts that hand out the Oscars dont appreciate it, doesnt mean it isn't a great film.

Just because the fanboys are spraying their loads, doesn't mean it is a great film.

Um...is everyone forgetting that Peter "Big Oscar Eating Bastard" Jackson's new movie is out this year? :D
Seriously though, I think:
CONTENDERS FOR LOTS OF OSCARS:
King Kong
War of the Worlds
Kingdom of Heaven
Sin City
The Interpreter
Star Wars Episode III (I can see the Academy pulling an ROTK all over this because it's another finale...)
CONTENDERS FOR A FEW NOMINATIONS
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
The Chronicles of Narnia
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
xxx2 (lmao, I jest, I jest :D)
And maybe Constantine will get a nom for best special effects... I thought they were pretty good.
