Garfield Returns!
Source: Variety April 8, 2005

It looks like 20th Century Fox is going to go ahead and make a sequel to last year's minor family hit Garfield and they've just hired a director in Tim Hill.

Hill's directing credits include Disney's Max Keebel's Big Move and the Jim Henson classic Muppets in Space as well as being a writer on the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.

Garfield 2 is currently scheduled to open July 28, 2006.

Hehe. I actually liked the first one. If they get Bill Murray, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Breckin Myer back then I may give this a shot. It will probably suck but who knows.

The first one started out all right, but missed the point by turning into too much of a typical kid's flick.

The challenge with Garfield is trying to integrate the spirit of a three-panel comic strip into a 90 minute movie with an actual plot. If they can pull it off, I actually think the movie could be fun -- only make Odie CGI this time, too.

Yup. Make Odie CGI. It's the only way to get that Gene Simmons tongue of his right. It'll also make Garfield kicking him off the table more fun to watch. :D

Ahahaha! My dream has come true! ANOTHER crappy Jennifer Love Hewitt pic! But Odie REALLY needs to be CG, it took me out of the first movie (7/10), believe it or not.

Odie need to be CGI and Jennifer Love Hewitt needs to be naked.
I will actually watch this one then.

As much as I find Bill Murry perfect, Garfield needs to SHUT UP. If I remember correctly, Garfield is supposed to be lazy, not talking every minute of the movie.

I caught a free screening of the movie, and while I didn't particularly like it, it wasn't that bad (6/10). It was obvious it was targeted to children and only children (in other words, even the parents who brought the kids to see it probably didn't like it). But it did make over $70 million - it's budget. I'm not too suprised.

I'm just wondering if Bill Murray will return as the cat's voice.

I think Bill Murray doesn't like to do sequels so there's a big chance he won't be in it.

I actually kind of enjoyed the first one, but I have to agree with about half of you and say that Odie should have been CGI'd as well.
