As far as I'm concerned, Oasis have never been good. They've always been a band that I just couldn't stand. There's something about Gallaghers smugness and the fact that he can't sing which made me dislike them and Lyla is as bad as the rest of their stuff.

Well, that's just my opinion.

Champagne Supernova is one of my all time favorite songs.( Whats The Story) Morning Glory was excellent, but none of their other albums have been that good. Be Here Now(Right?) was okay. Have not heard the new one.

I love Oasis. (What's the Story) Morning Glory is one of my favorite albums of all time. I can't help it.

Here's the flipside of the coin. I've considered them to be mediocre for years (since about the release of the third album) but actually think Lyla is a pretty good little tune. Nothing earth shattering but it is a catchy little number.

No, I don't.

I will quote Will Ferrell and say:
"Oasis is the greatest band since the Beatles!"

Hahaha, that always made me laugh.

I agree completely. Ferrell is a cut up. :D

Oasis was always terrible. I just thought they were a couple of pompous assholes with that snide "better than anyone else" attitude and no talent to back it up.

But guys, they were better than the Beatles.

:)

That remark really pissed me off.

Hey, I love Oasis, they're one of my favorite bands...and I sorta like that new song of theirs, its been playing nonstop on my playlist and its growing on me...(though it is annoying seeing as the one I have is ripped from a Japanese radio so there's some Japanese guy talking right at the beginning and end of the song)...

I do admit though that their last couple albums haven't been that great...I liked a couple songs from each, but none that really blew me away on Be Here Now, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, or Heathen Chemistry except Gas Panic! (from SOTSOG)...and maybe Born on a Different Cloud (from Heathen Chemistry)

(What's the Story) Morning Glory was of course a high point for them...I love many songs on here (Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova, Morning Glory, Some Might Say, Cast No Shadow) though I might've heard this album a tad too much...

Definitely Maybe is very very close to the top for me of Oasis. The first time I heard the album, I liked certain songs very much (Live Forever - who doesn't, Supersonic), but this album really catches on after it's left in and played constantly...I love pretty much every song on here but my absolute favorites on here are Supersonic, Live Forever, Slide Away, Sad Song (on the vinyl/on the 10th Anniversary DVD of this album which rocks) and of course the classic Rock 'n' Roll Star.

I have to say my favorite Oasis album is The Masterplan...I know I know, it's an album of B-sides, but everyone knows Oasis has better B-sides than A-sides :p...my favorites on here are The Masterplan, Acquiese, Underneath the Sky, and Listen Up...which are all some of my favorite Oasis songs but the entire album is fantastic.

Oh and they have lots of great B-sides not on Masterplan/other songs like Whatever!, Let's All Make Believe, D'Yer Wanna Be a Spaceman, etc etc...

So yes, they may have gone down in recent years but I still like their new albums...and I'll look out for every album they ever make because I'm sure they'll eventually be able to make an album on par with their first two + The Masterplan. And I can't help it, I'll love Oasis no matter how many crappy albums they put out (well, I guess there's a certain point where I would stop listening, but that doesn't take away from their first several albums)

and I have hope that Don't Believe the Truth will be great...even just one great Oasis song and I'll be happy. Please.

i have never disliked oasis but always found them to be a pretty ungrateful and arrogant band, when in my opinion they have been a bit of a lucky band.
they came along at a perfect time, madchester was coming to an end people where getting bored waiting for the second stone roses album and there was a ready made audience who liked guitar based music but did not really have anyone worth following at the time, so along came noel who i credit with being pretty clever he was a roadie with the inspiral carpets so was pretty clued up with the current music trends he knew that bands like the carpets, happy mondays, stone roses were on the wain and britain needed someone to step into those shoes. so when his kid brother got a band together noel saw it as a perfect time to get something going. so again in my opinion he went about plagiarising a lot of old guitar bands if you listen to the first two albums he has blatantly stole guitar riffs from bands like, the beatles, slade, status fucking quo, the stone roses, t rex and many others.infact my favourate song off "defiantly maybe"," cigarettes and alcohol "stole the whole riff from "get it on" by t trex.
the bigger fuck up they had though for me is after the success of the first two album's they actually thought they were a far better band than they are,"be here now" has maybe two decent song's on it, but "standing on the shoulders of giants" is one big mess of an album,"heathen chemistry" was an improvement but that went back to stealing riffs and generally stealing other peoples material and ideas.
what will the new album be like i have no idea but i can say i am not really in any big hurry to find out.

Oasis is still around? I thought for sure one brother killed the other one then went to jail for it... (Kidding...)

I really liked them back in the 90's but lost respect when they made the Beatles comment.

I have a special place for those Oasis boys. While I was doing my A Levels there first two albums were on constant rotation at home, in the common room and on the pub jukebox. Since then though...meh.

I think it's a proper grower...I've been humming it on and off all day.

People just seem to love to slate Oasis. If Lyla had been put out by the latest flavour of the month, everybody would be fucking loving it.

Oasis has always been a perfect example of diminishing returns. Their first album was very good, their 2nd album was good, their 3rd album was so-so, their fourth album was weak, and so on.

Haven't heard the new single yet.

It has to be said thought that Live Forever still makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, even after all these years. I instantly fell in love with that song when I heard it for the first time 11 years ago.

Oh and today I heard two other Oasis B-Sides I can't believe I missed before...Solve My Mystery and Flashbax, they're both great tracks :D

And yup, Lyla gets better with each listen for me personally.

What most people do when they are talking about Oasis is apply the 'Britney Spears Rationale' and reject/accept a band because of their image. Liam Gallagher is a twat, no doubt, Noel maybe less so, but this should not affect the way people view their musical talent and what they achieved in the nineties. They were, for a time, a great band, one of the best around. The only reason they didn't break America properly was because most Americans look at music through the Britney Spears Rationale, and saw Oasis as the arrogant people they were. If they had been as likeable as, say, a band like Starsalior, then they would probably be much more successful. Their albums post Morning Glory have been mediocre but I think Lyla is listenable and apparently Noel Gallagher has writtn over sixty songs and picked the best so here's hoping. The guy who said they are pompous - you're a comic genius!

Most of my fellow student buds wank over Oasis. I don't think they're the best, I don't think they're the worst. They fit somewhere in between for me. They have some great tunes and some average ones that sound like the typical 'Oasis harmony'.

On the other hand, I'll be up there in Manchester on June 30th. Should be a schweet little (massive) gig. They should be playing a few numbers from their new album "Don't believe the truth" too, for a bit of promotion.

Oh, and after listening to 'Lyla' a coupla times, you can't get that darn melody out your noggin! I think it's a great song.

Oasis are pretty good, in my opinion, but I've been turned off of them for years. They have some good songs, but the constant bitching and fighting between the Gallagher brothers seems to diminish their credibility, in my eyes.

layla is not a bad tune but it rips off
Street Fighting Man - The Stones
Blockbuster - The Sweet
Jean Jeanie - Bowie
noel is a talented guy when it comes to borrowing parts of other peoples songs.
